I've got one and they are great. Never had a steel one before so can't compare, but they are pretty tough. Not sure how many cans (website may have details) but all the big 3l juice bottles can easily stand or lie flat. They are around $400 cheaper then the steel ones too despite holding 2L less. No problems in keeping the beer cold.
Cheers

I am working out they way to adjust my slide to replace the Waeco with one. I reckon they are good. If you can find the right deal you can get one for $699 with a cover.

got 5 engles running in shed for my trip next week 3 x 40ltr metal ,1 x 35ltr metal and 1 x eclpise
The Eclipse is the loudest of them all and the only one I can hear running when I walk in.
but performs as per the other 4 , I can give a more detailed feedback after 7 days on an island under a tarp in 35Deg heat and see how it stacks against the metal counterparts. It has a big job ahaed of it with 21 cartons and thirsty boys.

I have had mine in the front box of the camper since October 2010 and it has not been switched off since! This unit has been over 20000 km's of corrugated unsealed roads tracks in extreme 45 deg plus heat performing flawlessly and when parked in the shed in the camper it becomes the beer fridge, which I think I can squeeze in 38 of the yellow can.
I have three engles which I use, the eclipse a seven year old MT 45 and a 28 year old 38 litre, none of which have missed a beat. The eclipse is great value and the side opening lid was perfect for the front box on my soft floor. i doubt you will be dissapointed if you pick this fridge.
:cheers:Mike

I sold my metal 40lt and "upgraded" to an eclipse. Sold metal unit that had no warrenty for $600 and picked up eclipse with cover for $800, gained 3years of warrenty and now have a receipt to jam down the insurances throat when they question if I had one if it ever decides to go missing.
I like the eclipse unit, no thrills, no rust. Turned it on 6months ago and hasn't been turned off yet, the way the cover goes on is a bit so so with the Velcro/tape setup, get it right and should last a few years before the tape gives way.
Noise doesn't bother me even sleeping next to it a couple of nights, I'm guessing even though the latches are plastic there's two of them vs the metal version, also less overall hight for when you open the lid right open when you pack it.
In temps up to 35degrees and as low as 10 the most temp variance I've had is 2.5degrees (using an engel thermometer) so I'm happy to set and forget just under the 2 setting for frosty beers (-3.5 - -1)

Yeah i fall asleep to the hum of the Waeco.......the running noise is actually comforting.....i know everything is working.

I just tested mine out. Had to buy to blocks of the good stuff. I fit 51 cans of XXXX GOLD. BTW I bought my Engel eclipse from Engel world in midland wa. With a transit bag for 649! Much better service and great people compared to the bigger chains.

They are hard to go past for value that's for sure, I am doing a system design a 6.5mtr evolution hull from Origin boats, it is to have 2 fridges in the nose of the boat under the cast deck and after all contenders the ellipse won out on price and flexibility and being plastic was a bit plus too. Owner wanted best not cheapest and these still won out due to side hinged door that is reversible so side by side the lids both open outwards if that makes sense.
I do notice a small amount more overall power consumption from the elcipse over the metal case one but I think the fan plays a part in that ..have not looked that closely yet but it is only a small power differential from my observations.

l have 2 Eclipse , 1 is run as a chiller the other as a freezer on longer trips both sit in the back of the Pajero running in transit . Then they are run off the deepie in the CT at camp . On short trips l fill 1 with beer ,food in the other .
l paid $700for 1 & $800 for the other . Awesome Kit .

I got an eclipse and also my mates old man has one along with his three metal engels. The older metal engel has no rust, but the two newer ones do. The eclipse he reckons is the best buy, and to have a temp gauge he done the same as me and got one of their $35 temp gauges which tells ya how hot it is outside too! Those metal ones dont do that do they!
I have had ours for over six months now and is running inside here next to the big freezer as my beer fridge. Never had a hot beer yet!
Looking at getting another one soon so we can have a freezer and fridge in the camper

Just a quick update...
the eclipse performed faultlessly over the week, the only downside was viewing temp as we always take a quick glance at temps as we walk past with the eclipse this was not possible.
but other than that small issue which can be fixed with a cheap temp probe and lcd the fridge performed perfectly. (not sure i would pay an extra $600 just for the lcd screen ;D ;D ;D)
slight more power consumption without the turbo fan it cycled a little more than its brothers, but like I say performed faultlessly many cold      came out of it and then we turned it into a frezzer for the last 3 days and again no issues.

I have sold a heap of these over the last few years and have never had a drama or a claim on one of them.
The engel rep says they are exactly the same inside as the rest of the engel range.
Cheers Matt
