Hi all,
I was wondering what you guys/gal;s do to locate possible campsites on your travels?
I have looked at the Camps book but I would like to be able to filter sites based on my own criteria, so the Camps App would be a logical choice however it is only available on iPhone/iPad etc not PC/Mac.
I have an old book on Camping in Australia but as I mentioned its old.
So how do you find potential camp sites?
Cheers
John

I use camps 7 and wikicamps.
Combination of both works well and I like users being able to update wiki on the run.

Tripigy will be released in March. D4D got a sneak peak over the fire on the weekend.
It's all looking very good.
I'll keep everyone updated.

I usually pull into a pub and have a cold beer........
Publicans and locals are a great source of info.

just head away and explore

We just explore as well, find a track and see where it heads, always find a spot somewhere

Hi,
a bit of map reading will reveal possibilities some times.
For an overnight stealth camp nearby, I put 'lookout' into the Garmin Points of Interest search, or 'park' or even 'picnic' will sometimes bring up a usable spot for a night's kip. They are usually not the place to set up a camp and definitely not on a warm weekend with a full moon. Best on a cold rainy night.
Apart from suburbia, agricultural land is the hardest to find spots, especially near major roads. Often a parallel minor road will reveal a hidey hole in a tree lined verge.
If you can camp on hard stand; church yards, cemeteries, school yards, golf club carparks, local footy grounds, boat ramps are all options worth considering.
Often it is just a matter of keeping an eye out around late afternoon, and pouncing on a good opportunity when it presents its self.
