Title: coongie lakes
Post by: rossbarb on February 09, 2014, 11:22:03 AM
Hi Everyone,
We are thinking of visiting Coongie lakes and was wondering if the road in is suitable for a landcruiser and a Free Spirit caravan (similar to Kedron bushtracker except 500kg lighter). We are self contained and we know to lower tyre pressure, have completed the Gibb River Road , the cape without the van, Strzelecki track etc.
Also any hints etc. would be appreciated.
Thank you so much in advance.

I was there in April last year. It had just been opened after being closed due to rain. We towed a Kimberley Kamper and had no issue. The track is quite sandy in some places. You need to be aware or large trucks that can come roaring along the track closer to Innamincka.
Just before you get to the end of the main track, a track to right traverses a small sand dune. Once over the dune, the track is quite sandy and quickly narrows as you start to go around the lake. When we were there, the track around the lake was closed.
There is also a small camping area at the end of the main track.

So, unless there has been rain, the track is quite easy for a well set up rig.
