Going to Inskip point for the first time with the 4WD and the camper this weekend. After advice from anyone that has been there before.
On the National Parks website, they refer to 4 camping areas. Dorrigo, Natone, Beagle, Sarawak. They state Dorrigo & Sarawak are suitable for campers, but Natone & Beagle aren't. Is this true ? Or is it a case, as mentioned in a topic from 3 years ago, you unhitch before you go in and drive around and have a look ?
And which one is the best one to camp in ?
Any advice appreciated

Personally I prefer Dorrigo, but ONLY if there's no chance of a S.E. Along the beach track at Dorrigo is brilliant. There's another track that runs parallel to this and is more protected. If there's a chance of wind, we usually go there. If you don't want to be near water, there's also the top side to Dorrigo. Dorrigo is the only spot with surf.
Natone is a great spot also. If it's soft, it can be a slog to enter. It's a lot more protected from the wind. It's just past the point of surf meeting the passage. Not the best swimming at low tide.
Beagle is a good spot to camp, really protected from the wind and some absolute cracking spots to camp right on the beach with brilliant views. On hot days, you'll have third degree burns to your feet by the time you cross the soft sand to the water. Definately the best campsites IMHO, but no surf and on low tide not the best swimming. If you have little kids, there's usually some ripper gutters left at low tide with up to 3/4m of water left in them around that part of the beach.
If Sarawak was the only place left to camp, I'd come back home. We generally get smashed by sandflies there. That area generally has no apeal to me anyhow.
There's also another ripper spot, it's only very small but brilliant. Between The Oaks and Dorrigo. It's an unsigned entrance, but has a signed exit. A little sign "One way, exit only" or something. Entrance is about 100m south of there. It's right on the surf beach, but again it's sucks arse in SE winds.
The Oaks is the first spot you'll come to. It's brilliant on still winters days. There's no shade and this time of year there's every chance of being absolutely hammered by wind and sand. We have set up there a few times in winter and it's awesome.
You'll get a camper into any of them. Natone is probably the softest, but at times we drive in and out in 2wd. Dorrigo can be soft. There's a hard left at the end of the beach track that gets soft and chopped up. After rain, again 2wd in and out of there. Beagle is very easy, Sarawak may as well be asphalt.

Have a look around when you get there, but we usually stay at beagle with our camper as it in our experience tends to be quieter and has some perfect secluded spots right on the beach with great shelter from the wind and sun.....

Mark, we haven't camped this spot yet, but have checked it out and we really liked it.
When you are getting close to Inskip itself, you do a 90 degree right turn to follow the bitumen or you end up on the dirt road to bullock point.
Now, if you want a quiet little spot, go onto the dirt for about 50 metres or less and as the dirt road starts to turn a little to the left, there is a sand track waiting for you and if ya sort of drove straight ahead at the trees, you'll spot it.
Fairly short drive in and you'll have your own little sandy white beach.
Plenty of room to turn around if you hate it, so head on in and see what you think.
Some folks we spoke to there a few months back, were fishing off the beach and doing well and its only a short run around to the main part of inskip if you want to fish or swim from there.
We first spotted this place from the boat and from what we saw when we checked it out, i don't if many would know about it either.
You should still have my number and give me a yell if ya need anything or if ya forgot sumfin eh.
PM me if ya haven't still got my number.
Oh goody, know everyone knows about this spot.

Aha.....I had been wondering where this secret spot of yours was.

Mark, let us know where you end up going and we might have to come for a drive to say hello

Jeepers,
I'll have a look when we get there...however, we have some people coming for their (almost) first camping trip..unless there are toilets there, its unlikely to get their OK.

Shane,
thanks for the detail...it looks like there will be a breeze this weekend, so I think we'll check out Beagle.
Thanks again to everyone for your advice.

Mate, no crappers at my spot, so if ya wanna send a chocolate log on a tour of Inskip, the main "inskip point" will be the go then.
If this bloody wind would nick off, we'd have been in Pelican Bay this week-end, and we would've ducky'd ourselves over and said hello.... but thats all turning to crap.
geez i hate wind.
