Hi all,
following on from another thread the Ultimate Extreme has experienced some failures ..all in one car GU PATROL... heat tests indicate the gu has a hotter than most engine bay in the vicinity of the aux battery tray, due to the turbo location relative to the battery. Even hotter than was quoted by Nissan in design stage. ( I have a suspicion the engineers took the heat report data from the start batt not the location of the aux)
So if you have bought one off me and it is in your GU please PM me so I can it sorted for you.
I would like to stress NO OTHER CAR IS HAVING ANY ISSUE WITH THE ULTIMATE EXTREME and THERE IS NO ISSUE WITH THE BATTERY THEY ARE PURRING ALONG IN HEAPS OF ENGINE BAYS ;D ;D ;D
anyway just like to look after my customers and would rather sort a solution before a failure ;D ;D ;D
Jet ;D ;D

I had that problem in my patrol.
I tried heat shields, venting, but unfortunately nothing seemed to work.
I usually got at least 3 years out of a deep cycle so under the extreme heat I wasn't too upset.
I don't believe there is any fix in a patrol.
Anyhow............
Great to see you are being pro-active with this.
Best wishes to a top swagger.
Cheers,
Brian
(Oh and I solved the problem by buying a prado :'()

Heat is a major issue with the Aux battery in the GU, having said that our Patrol is 10 years old and I am on my third battery. The first died from a collapsed cell so doesn't really count. I am currently trialling enclosing the aux in the plastic surround same as the starter and running a flexi hose from under the front, kind of like forced induction. Will see how it goes.

Theo..
RJ Batteries do a battery shield for the GU.. I run one on my Fullriver in engine bay, around 2-3 yrs now not an issue.
its just a thin steel cover for the battery.
same as the sidewinder one, but made out of metal
