Ok, I need some counselling ;D ;D ;D
there exists a particular brand of camper that I really really like, they are very hard to find second hand, infact only seen a few over the last 2 years, so one has come up but we agreed not to buy another camper for 1.5 years until the eldest finished school (he is grade 11 this year).
So our plan was to buy next winter 2015 and then head off for 6 mths in 2016 with the youngest out of school with us and the eldest ??? work/military/living it up in my house LOL
So then a good myswagg buddy of mine sends me a link and I should not have opened it, so its exactly what we want even has the same wheels as our car.. I call the guy he says sorry mate a family friend has said he wants it so i have towed it down south for him.
Oh ok I say thats that I can move on and we discuss "we said we will wait ect ect" all good ..
THEN ...he calls me back and says the other guy pulled out and he can tow it back up here on the 17/18 feb for me to inspect.
Now I am really in a heart Vs mind tussle.
I know if I let this go in 18mths we wont find one when want one, but the $$$ are a big deal. and would require a re-draw on my home (something I have never done in my life). In 18mths I could pay cash.
I know i need to grab it... just need some good old fashion myswag therapy ..in fact feel better already..
thanks for listening myswag.
jet ;D ;D

Just get the money from the bank they have plenty. He who die's owing the bank the most is the winner ;D
Seriously if you can pay cash for it in 18 months then borrow it and in 18 months time pay the loan out in full. No harm done and only a small bit of interest.

We learnt this the hard way, too many times.
If it is there, you have the funds for it, get it.
Too many times we delayed purchased, it has gone, never to find another one again.

That could really work.
Just a bit of advise though, don't forget to actually send the artwork to the buyer. ;D
Nike
Just do it.

Can you explain to me how to do a cash transfer not too goo with these modern computer things... ;D ;D
I say go for it (much like everyone else)

Live for today.

You can start to pay down the loan when the s roasts next door pay out for the fence.
Seriously, you know if this is sensible or not. If you are able to do so without significantly impacting on your finances then why not?
Think of it as a 'dividend' for never having re-drawn on your hose in the past. If you had, you wouldn't be in a position to consider it now.
The Heaslip was a bit of a stretch for me, but Like you, I knew that it was what I was after, and that they are usually as hard to find as rocking horse poo.
-
You know you want to >:D , dooooo iiiitttttt ;D
P.S. sorry for sending you the link ;)
-
I just happen to know what it is :)
My advice is to just get it, you know you want to. If I wasn't in the process of building a shed I would have bid against you for it.
-
You have to by it now..as we all want to know what it is.
I am going to have to go through all the camper trailer adverts on line and find every trailer worth 25K now..
-
I'll never tell mate, no matter how much beer they offer me
-
Ok I will end up buying it , thanks for all feedback guys , sometimes you just need a few others to help cement a decision,

Not too hard to work this one out, I had to follow this CT not too long ago!
Ask the owner if he will throw in the custom hammock!
Am I on the right track here!

Ok yes it's a Cape york extreme , I don't have it yet but owner says I have first option on it if I get nervous I can always drive the 6 hrs to where the trailer is near goondawindi I think.

I resemble that remark Mr McGirr :-* , and it was because of Symons cooking....................he's a bad man !
Well done Theo :cup:  , you'll get many a good year of honest, reliable and dependable service from your ( soon to be ) new camper.
But now we can't go camping together or we run the risk of looking like a pair of right tossers with our matching 100 series Cruisers and Cape York Campers...... LOL ;D

Or a way to blame someone else! Honest it wasn't my idea, Myswag made me do it ;D ;D
My 100 year old granny always says that they won't bury you with it and your kids only waste it so you might as well spend it before you go! I remember we were just looking for a new ute for SWMBO, probably not quite in a position to buy. Then we found our DMax with a deal we couldn't refuse and so we got it and just made it work. No regrets!
Hope it all works out for you.
-
Well done Theo. They certainly are few and far between now. You will get heaps of enjoyment from it.
-
.

Have you picked it up yet ;D

Goondawindi is about an hour twenty from me if I can help? Always looking for an excuse to jump on the bike for a blast if you need photos or something. Otherwise you can store it here for as long as you need?
Thanks heaps for the offer mate, have spoken with owner again today and pick up inspection will be sunday 16th feb he will have the gas cert and safety cert done by then and have trailer 15mins from my home for collection so all is falling into place well.
Nice bloke and a gentleman's agreement has been reached in relation to him keeping it for me and giving me first right of refusal. So i don't think I need a road trip as he said its closer to moree and about 7 hrs away, and he can't get a safter cert done down there so i could not poick it up anyway.
Its going to be a lomg 2 week wait ..been trying to find pics of the CYT extreme online but there are not many on there ..been through every post on here with a CYT. ;D ;D ;D ;D
Jet ;D ;D

That's excellent Jet. Nice to be dealing with a man with principles. :cup:
Will you be taking it on your desert trip?
-
Congrats Jet.
-
A Jayco Cape York? Never heard of that model but if it was a one off special made for the CEO or the Leyland Brothers I fail to undertand what took you so long. Trade the wife, sell your body, payday lenders, anything... :cup:
I know you're excited but good God, control yourself man. Pop up, pop up? These things don't POP UP, we discerning folk just wind up with them 8)

Well I DONT own a new camper :'(
Seems our versions of excellent condition differ quite a bit.
"It has a few stone chips" = entire camper covered from front to back and big ones causing paint to flake off. I am no wuss with stone chips but this was bad..
Main zipper missing tooth
Dents in tailgate .
Gel/gloss coat gone on top .
So I offered 23k to give me 1k to respray and 1k to get tent off and repair zipper,
No go for seller ..they paid 27k 9 yrs ago spent 9 years covering the thing in dents and Chips and want 25 for it .but would do 24k I stuck to my guns and walked away.
So all happy that we walked away. Not meant to be but a real shame to see one so chipped up.
Jet ;D

That is a shame but agree with sticking to your guns they might find they are stuck with it for ages with no sale. And you will hopefully find that the time you were originally planning on looking the right one will be around then.
-
Sorry to hear it was is such a "used" condition. That just means a better one will come up when you are really ready to buy one.
-
Sorry to hear mate. Another one has your name on it ;D ;D
KB
-
You can come over any time mate and look at mine ;D , that should feed you addiction until a good condition one comes along
-
No good mate. Good luck finding another one.

That'll just raise his expectation to an unrealistic level.......
-
Theo,
thats a bummer.....but at least you can now put all that work you've done on the car to use.
Mark
-
Sorry, even $23k is ridiculous money for a unit that age IMO.
-
They'll come back when they get back to reality and realise that 8% depreciation over 9 years is nothing.
Sent from my Galaxy S4 in work time... meh

Not sure the same rules always apply.
We sold our 8yo TrakShak for 12% more than we paid for it new.

Mate, you only get a wood duck come along every now and then! ;D
Urban dictionary:
wood duck
70's term adapted from used cars,Easy target for sale of used car, sale of uesd car to customer with no idea, customer with little knowledge,
"Get a load of this wood duck"!
"This woody has no idea"
"I slammed a wood duck into this deal"

Mate, you only get a wood duck come along every now and then! ;D
Nah. The new price had more than doubled since we bought it.
Had some call and virtually abuse me because the asking price wasn't less than what I paid.
Dreamers...... ::) ::)
-
Had the camper been in "excellent" condition I would have happily paid the 25K for it, some things hold their value very well and certain campers are in this field,
I can tell you when JK goes to sell his I will happily give him what he paid 10 yrs ago no question (hint hint JK) ;D ;D ;D
but that is because the unit is in excellent condition, the issue was not what the previous owner paid it was the fact that he would not depreciate the item based on its condition.
When buying a 4x4 do you buy the one covered in sand and dents for the same price as an immaculate driven on weekends one ..I know which one i'd buy, apparently the sellers wife would have bought the well used one ..because then you know its been used as intended so she told me. as to why the million stone chips were not a factor affecting sale price.
all good though i scored a unit that ticks 3/4 of our wish list for 20k less ;D ;D ;D
