Title: Antenna Question (old school) - TV Type
Post by: Haggy on January 13, 2014, 09:31:31 AM
Hi,
I need some help and advice.  I have a "digitial ready" TV antenna for my camper/caravan.  However as its an old school caravan, it has a different type of plug into the van (2 pin style as per the attached pic).  The antenna accepts the standard coax type cable, screw fitting at the antenna end.
Just wondering, what on earth plugs into the caravan end?
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
chris

That's an old 300 Ohm twin wire socket, you'll need to replace that with a 75 Ohm coax socket. You'll probably need to rewire the inside of the van too.

You used to be able to buy a  converter (75 ohm Balun) that plugged  into th TV and the ribbon cable screwed onto it.

Funny that you have a coax connector at the antenna end as the ribbon was used all the way to the antenna. I would remove the fitting and see if there is coax behind it. It might be just a case of replacing the fitting. If not, I think you should rewire it as the old ribbon is probably not very digital TV friendly.

Thanks for the replies - you have confirmed what I didnt want to do  :'(
Probably easier to spend the time and rewire, then enjoy hassle free tv reception

It may not be too hard using the existing cable as a draw wire.
