Hi Everyone,
So based on my previous posts we are getting closer to Melbourne :)...
This means its time to start thinking about the high country. I'm hopeful to be able to do a number of tracks up there in the next say 2 months.
Looking at many options, however i'd like some advice on the grade of these tracks (considering going by myself on "some")..
What tracks should i "STAY AWAY" from by myself? Anyone planning a trip from the 26th of Jan? Maybe can tag along?
I'm a very experienced 4WD'er..
Have a pretty good 4WD (when the computers don't break :)...)
Carry all the recovery gear like Winch, Maxtrax, Repair Kits, Winch kits etc
Vehicle has good protection, etc and very very capable (Range Rover!) With All Terrain's
Went across the Simpson desert without a hitch, (the easy and hard ways) plus also fraser and many other things out and about without any problems, or even using recovery gear.. which sometimes i really want to use it..)
Thoughts? And advice? there seems to be a grading system by Parks Vic, however if it's anything like QLD grades, i.e Fraser Island which is set as difficult i find these spots very easy?
Advice appreciated.

Hmmm I have some time available Jan-Feb and looking to get some tracks in, Blue Rag etc. we should chat :)

sounds good D4D maybe we can even do that catchup we've been planning for 6 months! ha ha..
I'm in town from the 19th, but will have some time from around the 25th...
trying to work out where to stay for the long weekend...
But very keen to try and grab some tracks prior to getting too cold, and we've put the Tassie trip off for about a month i think.

where ever you go, get in VERY VERY early and spread out...

Haven't heard of a lot of issues on the grapevine from weekend trippers but in saying that we haven't had a real lot of rain lately so roads should be right for travelling everywhere. I know of a few separate party's travelling through most tracks in the coming weeks .i.e Falls Creek to the coast and others base camping somewhere out of Mansfield in the hills and travelling throughout that region... also have a brother in law in Mt Beauty that has good contacts with people who know .....so I will get feedback from those guys in a week or two and find out from " those who have just done it" so to speak. ( Albury based )

At this time of the year you should be fine on all popular high country tracks. This can change when it gets wet.

I'm east Vic so close to Licola & Dargo areas. I start leave in two weeks, Aust Day weekend, and off for three weeks. Happy to plan something. If it works in shoot me a PM.

Blue rag, in feb I could be interested ;D Iam not close but desperately want to do that side of the VHC.

Just did Blue Rag, Twin Jeeps over xmas and they were ok (dry weather) but unhitch the camper first; while you're there you could throw in Mt Selwyn as well. Did Selwyn a few years back, great views and great scramble to the summit, something to get the adrenalin pumping ;)
Plenty of good camping along the Buckland Valley right next to the Ovens River about 20km out from Porepunkah.
