Any thoughts on the winners so far? I'd like to know how the nomination process works. Lets not turn the discussion into a "trash the camper you don't like" session. Lets be constructive in any comments, please.
Cheers

Seems like a fair and impartial process to me. I'm a bit 'one eyed' for Trackabout, but in both cases so far the editorial gave reasons for the loss of points in the price range compared to the winner. What surprised me was some of the other's not being up as much as i thought they might have been. My 2c fwiw.

I don't really care who wins, but I'd like to think they get chosen on merit and not as has happened in the past where the biggest contributor ( advertiser ) gets the gong !!

Exactly my thoughts - I was thinking about writing an open letter to the magazine asking them to confirm that they do / do not let advertising or any external factors tint their reviews. CTA appears to be far less affected than some or their competitors who will seemingly write anything if there is advertising hanging off it....

The only thing these comparo's are good for, is wiping your backside.
Notice how the winning camper will have the big glossy add's.
If we ever get a good, proper impartial magazine that isn't another glossy publication for their sponsors, then we will never get a true opinion.
The only way to go, is to get a family, a couple and some one with an engineering, canvas background, that aren't paid by a sponsor, and let them use them for their intended purpose for a couple of weeks.

Do people take these *Awards* serious anymore?
in ANYTHING? cars, campers, bikes, pushbikes, sausage rolls etc etc
-
They invite a whole bunch of camper trailers. Some accept, some don't. They then get the judges to score each trailer under a bunch of criteria, scores are added. Winner announced. If they were purely based on ad dollars then none of the trailer manufacturers would enter. Conspiracies are nice but in the long run it wouldn't work.
I've been involved in vehicle if the year tests and my brother has done CT of the year and there was no bias, no suggestions made of which should win, all above the board results.
Are the winners the best whatever being tested. Maybe not but of those tested, under those criteria with those judges on that test they are the winners. Change things around and something else could win.
The tests and results are worth it to a degree as they can give some insight but in the end you would hope that buyers would actually go and check things out themselves

But without conspiracy theories most of them on here would have nothing to post about ;D ;D ;D

My personal opinion only, the awards are a load of rubbish. Good for the competing trailers as you don't see too many negatives written about them - great advertising. It's interesting to see the prices they quote in the mags. I got a quote off a recent winner of these awards whilst shopping around for a camper, and it was a lot dearer than in the mag. I ended up buying a completely different trailer ( a Trackabout), then one day read an article for these awards in the mag and noted a significant price reduction of one trailer brand in particular.
I then got a friend to ring the same company and ask for the same trailer as in the mag at the same price. You guessed it, the mag had made a couple of printing errors, apparently!!!!! The price wasn't just out, but out by a long way. They are also heavy advertises in the same mag. That did it for me. It's not the first time that I have experienced pricing issues with the same company.

Come along to a Myswag meet and check out the different trailers being used by families in real conditions and you will soon see what works and what doesn't.
Also search the forum for reviews and notes on each brand. Again real world testing by familes and couples and swaggers putting them to the test with mods to suit
