Title: Who else is working on Xmas Day?
Post by: Barrabart on December 24, 2013, 07:31:25 AM
G'day all,

Just wondering who else has drawn the short straw and is working over Xmas, if so what will you spend Xmas day doing?

I'm thinking the professions will be quite varied.....

For me it'll be up at 0345hrs, for my first day shift this swing (just done 7 nights) so I'll be the zombie like fella running a Gold Plant up here in PNG.

So what's the plan for your day?

Merry Xmas to ya's anyway!!!

Mrs Goose is a nurse on the cancer ward at the local hospital. She will be working Xmas day from lunch time. They have 30 beds the ward and they try to get as many patients home for Xmas as they can, but most will be be lucky if they are around for next Xmas.

I'll spend xmas day pulling chook bones out of throats at lunch time then after lunch should be cuts and bruises from fathers on skate boards and waring clans rekindling their love for each other with chairs bottles knives etc, then on call xmas night for more of the same. Do the same for boxing day but it will be more of "I'm dying". "No your not it is a hang over".After that just to change the adventure I'll do the same but at night so the dogs and drunks can sneek up on me.During  this festive adventure I'll keep telling myself you have a new Kimberley kamper and will be in the bush in a week, think happy thoughts.
Merry Christmas everyone and don't choke on a chicken bone.

SHMBO works in aged care and has drawn both the Christmas Day and New Year's Day early shifts. she will probably arrive home looking like a wet rabbit as there will be a lot of early morning showers to do, getting residents up and ready for family outings.

I'm a bit like the others at hospitals. We support the remote clinics up this ways so if a nurse  needs us in Balgo on Xmas day then we are here for them to call. Our entire Health Record system is on the web now so comms is really vital. Not much we can do about rain ans storms though and they can shut down any internet traffic.

Usually quiet unless they all get on the grog and then it gets messy.

I'll be at work, 7th day into my 21 day swing, not sure why, half the construction site has bailed on us this week, so for me ill be at the gym at half 4 in the morning, followed by plenty of internet surfing all day, trying to figure out what this tropical low up north is going to do, they have it 200km off Onslow by the 30th., followed by xmas dinner they are putting on - menu looks sensational.

For me Christmas Day is my last rostered day at the Pajingo Underground Gold Mine before going home for a week off starting on boxing day.
The company that owns the mine is putting on a Christmas lunch , ( Crib) for both the workers on dayshift ( my crew) and the incoming night shift crew.

I'm off both Xmas day and Boxing Day this year, back on the 27th. Been lucky the last two years, I've been off.
Normally we work a day shift which we usually do from home on call, or we do an arvo shift which we have to be in the office for.
Good luck to everyone who's working, stay safe.
Merry Xmas to everyone.

I'll have to get back out there one day for a look around. I left the Towers at start of '08, never been back, was there for 12yrs, hehe......... geez I'm a slack bastard!!..... Oh and it was in the Towers were I first got the nickname Bart, way back in about '97.... Enjoy ur day Duggie, take it easy.

I arrived in Alice about 11am Xmas Eve, and get to leave 5:15pm Xmas day.  That'll get me home about 11:30 to midnight.  Arrive home about midnight New Years Eve, again from Alice and then go to Darwin New Years Day.

So Xmas morning brekky with the crew, lunch at the place where the plane's live, then into the high speed aluminium tube and off to Darwin then Cairns.

To the Chinaman I ran over, I'm really sorry!  :'(

I just finished working, had to build a whole heap of stuff Santa left for my son. Luckily no bikes to put together this year, I can sit back and relax now. To all those working today, thanks and I hope you get home to your families soon.

Yep, had to move a few hundred cattle, after they broke a gate, try turning 400 plus calves 180
degrees through 1 gate by yourself with no dogs, frustrating.  ah well, at least i finished rebuilding my quad bike engine.
Had to travel to start work in the morning, 7 days then 3 weeks off, going to collect my OKA with the engine transplant, finally

I'll have to find some, had them on my old computer, then it died, lost everything.

It's got a 6.7L Cummins in it now though, with a 6sp Allison, riding on 37's   8)

I was meant to finish at 1800 - in time for dinner with the wife and children; but drunks, dysfunctional families and mental health escapees got in the way of that. I ended up getting home at 2130, just in time to put miss 3 to bed. Apart from a bit of bark missing, I managed to survive another Christmas shift.

Roll on NYE!
