Could you tow Say a MDC OFF ROAD WALK-THROUGH behind a Ford Station Wagon and if not why.
Sorry don't own a 4x4 yet and need to wait another year before we can get rid of a car and upgrade but would really like seeing some of our country even though it would only be via Carvan parks to start with.
-
sure can, long as u want to stay on tar and fire trails u will not have an issue
-
As long as you keep within the towing limits of the vehicle.
-
Go for it!
Something like an MDC mite weigh 1500kg plus fully laden, but still within towing limits of a falcon.
Most seem to be about 2300kg.
-
Yes you can, up until 4 months ago I was towing with an FG Falcon.
-
Fantastic it says on the plate thats its been upgrade by Ford to 230kg ball and 2300kg Tow from what I gather its an ex waterworks car done a lot of outback KMs purchased though auction by accident lol keep finding nice red dust in places I would have thought dust couldn't get toooooooooooooo.
Anyway that's good news thank you all.

Mate, get ya self a 1988 XF falcon wagon, give it a lift kit and some offroad tyres and you'll go places ya never thought possible.

Our indigenous brothers have been getting all over the top end in Ford Falcons for many, many years.
It's funny when you see a Landcruiser that has the entire ARB catalogue fitted and stuck. Then Nev comes along in his XF Falcon with all his brothers, and then some, drive by.

Seriously!!
If you are going to do it, do it with some Aussie Muscle and turn some heads. Do it with some style.

I've had a couple of XF panel vans. The last one had a 1.5" spring lift, 205/75/15 Hankook AT's on EF interceptors with a factory LSD. Took it on a few tracks up at Howqua and it did alright. Front bumper suffered a bit, the fan kissed the radiator on a small river crossing and it still lacked a bit of clearance on a few washouts. Still good fun for a car that owed me less than 2K.
-
My grandparents did a couple of circuits and a few shortcuts through the middle in an XP wagon....automatic. And a hell of a lot of 'Highway One' wasn't bitumen.
Your Falcon will be fine
-
Better than fine, they are a great tow car that has been used around Australia for generations. Until the 4x4 came along, the big Aussie sedan was the tow car of choice.
Here's my Falcon towing the Trackabout. I have a Jeep but on the black top the Falcon is more at home.

BBwilly, that sounds like Fords heavy duty tow package. You should also have an external auto transmission cooler installed? And I think the package has a square hitch towbar. The standard bar is just the flat tongue style.
What model Falcon do you have?
In later years Ford allowed 2300kg on the autos, but limited the manuals to something like 1600kg tow capacity.
Y'know Ford did a 'factory' 4WD wagon and ute in the XY....

G'day BBwilly,
For your info mate. A mate of mine tows a 6.8mtr Haines Hunter Reef Boat behing his XR6 Falcon Sedan.......... Pretty sure he's got airbags in the back springs though, and of course the trailer is braked......... so i'm pretty sure you'll have absolutely no issues towing a CT.
Regards,
Barrabart.

Met a chap a few years ago who for his honeymoon, yes honeymoon, in the 60s loaded up the farm falcon ute a drove to Alice springs from WA on what is now the Great Central Road. No.1 rule: drive to the conditions.

G'day rossm,
My parents who got married in the late 60's packed up my old mans work ute, a Morris Ute which had a canvas canopy on the back (so was also equipped for extensive travel ;D) and for their honeymoon drove from Cairns to Sydney, I believe because they wanted to see a big city, both had only ever lived in FNQ........
From Sydney headed west than north up through Alice Springs, think they continued north till probably Tennant Creek, then back across the Barkly through Mt Isa, Charters Towers then home again..... pretty much the whole time camping from the Morris Ute....... I've included a pic of a Morris Ute, for those that aren't familiar... think they were powered by a big 1ltr or 1.5 ltr..... oh and they did it during winter time, I reckon the old man did this by choice to allow for plenty of necessary cuddling, hehe.........

2005 BA AUTO LPG Model.
Was wondering about the the Square Hitch towbar as I don't that the tow ball part will have to look into that.
Was hoping to get over to MDC today for a look at the step up version but kids being a bit sick had to give it a miss bit of a shame no doubt they will be closed for Xmas.
A wealth of info there guys thank you all.
Keep driving past a Prado for 6k everyday lol Jesus its tempting have no idea of any of the info of it though Km etc.
