Been sitting in the back of my mind for a while now and coming into Christmas I've decided to buy myself a present, so just curious as to who travels with there telescope and what would be suitable,
Have been looking into one of these but could be a bit of a nightmare to pack when travelling

Generally speaking refractor scopes are more hardy than reflector scope optics. They are also smaller so better for portable situations. Neither take well to rough treatment so whatever you end up with, a well cushioned travel case is the minimum for protecting them during travel.
Your questions can be better answered on a specialist forum like http://www.iceinspace.com.au They are a friendly bunch and I'm sure they can help suggest a suitable device for your needs.

Try this one (https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/saturday-14-december-2013/saturday-detail-wk50/ps/p/dobson-telescope/), on sale at Aldi next Saturday. No idea whether it's any good, but at $50 with a 3 year warranty (and Aldi are great with warranties) you can't really go wrong.

I got one. When I was 5 years with the previous company it was on the list to choose from as a gift.
Instead of the standard watch, I picked the telescope.
The kids love it.
It is only hard to pack up and take it with you.

Cheers gents, I will grab one of the aldi ones to camp with so 3yr warranty and 50$$ carnt go wrong although i did just buy a Celestron Powerseeker 127eq for $114off gumtree its suppose to be a great beginners telescope, I should never had gone to see gravity 3d at imax :D

Before you spend $50, read the review on the IceInSpace forum. Search for Aldi - it's in the first few found items.
