I put my Landcruiser up for sale on Carsales, Exploreoz and Gumtree ten days ago. Also submitted an ad to Myswag but it has not appeared yet.
The price is in the middle of the bunch for similar vehicles and it's in great condition. I have had only one enquiry in that time, so I am wondering how long it's going to take to sell it. Can anyone tell me how long it took to sell their 4WD - assuming realistic pricing on a well presented vehicle?
-
I sold my 105 in my avitar picture 6 months ago and it took 7 days.
I think it was more luck because the purchasers wife just wrote their old cruiser off a week before.

Listed my 2001 KJ Cherokee on car sales.
Had 3 enquiries over 3 weeks. 3rd enquiry made an offer we were happy to accept.
-
It all depends on how much you think it's worth, and how much somebody wants to pay.
It is amazing how much owners think their trucks are worth with 300,000 plus km on them.
With anything second hand, see what the market is paying for the same product and decide from there.

as a recent purchaser of a landcruiser if its in good condition and the price is good it will sell, i looked at over 25 so called "immaculate" cruisers. most were POS with huge klm's.

Coming up to xmas selling anything is hard.. I think your dreaming..

Put my XLT ranger up a few months ago. Priced at the bottom end of what was being asked. In great condition and low km. Got 1 offer sight unseen within hours but 2k below what I wanted had another contact that day and looked at a few days later. Was happy with price I wanted, but needed to sell his.
After pressure from my wife a week later (she was worried I would be stuck with 2 cars) I dropped the price. The guy who had already looked at it accepts and deal was done.
Then, heaps of people interested !!!

Get the price right, gets buyers interested.
Next step is to be patient while all the dh come who only look at surface stuff and dont even check under the bonnet or under the car, then the right person will come along and buy it.
Ours took 2 months to sell. Had it on carsales and gumtree. Got nothing but scam from gumtree. Lowered price 3 times.

I put my 05 Hilux SR5 on carsales on a Tuesday at about 9 am, by 11am, I had a young guy ring me to ask questions. He came over on Sunday afternoon at 4.30pm, left at 5.30 pm and we sold it that night for the price we were looking for. I had a look at others on the market and what they were offering for theirs and judged by what I had done compared to theirs. It's very rare, but I did make a profit on it. Now I'm looking for another ute, much to the misso's dismay.
What I sold it with may have been the big factor though, along with the k's for the year of the Hilux.
That was about 2 months ago.

In 2010 i sold our 2005 Nissan Navara STR in under week through carsales.com.au. Buyer paid advertised price without attempting to negotiate. I think it was priced fairly and they were in demand back then.

If your not getting many hits on it rather than dropping your price (unless its justified) rework your add. Some of the adds I have seen for ct's, tugs etc are nothing short of fu%king woeful. Add copy makes a huge difference..............
dont embelish it but make it as detailed and as impressive as you can.
be logical......details outside then inside then other features and give them headings
give the buyer a reason to call you.....a story about the car or something like that often helps.

Thanks Everyone.
I think I've done everything right.
My wife says I have to learn to be patient.
I said: "Good Idea. Where can I do a crash course?"

Make sure the photos are well done as well.

The ad looks good on here. It's straight forward and to the point.
It depends how quick you want to sell. If no interest in the first week you may need to re position the price as active buyers would have seen the ad and made their decision.
As the car is standard in a sense, no dual battery, UHF radio etc buyers will factor the costs to have them plus other items installed. The positive side is it has not been flogged on rough tracks.
Try a figure like offers over $24,000. You need to get an offer and negotiate from there.
Good luck with the sale.

I would list some of the standard features as well. I don't know land cruisers , so your ad doesn't tell me if it has aircon, auto/manual, electric windows / mirrors cruise control etc. it will help people looking at several different brands / models to narrow down what they want, which hopefully is yours.
Another trick is every week change some of your photos, in particular the one that shows up on the search page. That way it looks like a new ad

Great advice. Thank you everyone.

Just be patient mate. I tried to sell my Hilux over Christmas last year, and had a hard time too. At the end of the day, you only need one person who likes the car and is prepared to buy it. Unfortunately, over Xmas people have limited money, so your chances take a big dive!

Yea that's the dumbest way to sell things.. they play that game (as you know) with houses.. if you said that to me, I'd offer $24,001 and waste both our times.
Put the price you want, Plus a bit so the bloke will offer you less and feel like a winner.

But at least you have an offer ;D
It doesn't matter whether its a house, a car, a tv etc.
Each to their own

yea, we ignored every ad that said that when buying this place... pissed off the estate agent heaps... Told her stop wasting my time, tell me the price... in the end she caved, and we made an offer and it was done that day.. didn't drag on any more than she made it.
but saying $offers over 24,000 and you want 28,000 isn't going to get anybody anywhere. Just tell people what you want ...
yep, each their own
