Hi all
Ive only just started to get back into camping in the last few years and have now decided to buy a camper trailer... love the out doors. but not everything about camping is pleasant..... im talking about bad neighbours
I hired a johnnos camper on the weekend from red dirt camping in dubbo to see if the wife would take to a camper trailer as her family has traditionally used caravans for going on trips as a kid and decided to head down for an overnight trip to Newnes near Lithgow, nothing to full on for a trial trip... bushwalking, glow worm tunnel and paddling in the shallow water, just a nice peaceful get away.
Everything was going well. trailer and kitchen was set up, bbq was going and the tinnies were cold... heaven... until about 6PM... a camp site about 50 meters away started to fill up with a bunch of P platers in VL commodores and Hyundai Excels. no worries i thought, bunch of young folks (im only 25 though) enjoying Newnes.. good on em. then the music started. these guys had Slipknot turned as loud as they possibly could. could not hear anything over the rot but then for these people to talk they had to yell at each other.
so I sat with the wife, enjoyed my beers and listened to Slipknot and people yelling...... not ideal at all.
at about 930pm we decided to hit the hay, keen to see how comfy the trailer was.. pretty good actually. only thing was, these guys still had Slipknot cranking till about 12.30 am and kept periodically coming past our site to go smash up fallen trees for fire wood.
I dont mind if people listen to tunes while camping, i actually enjoy it while cooking a BBQ and having a beer but there has to be some level of courtesy.
All in all, the trip was a success, the wife has given the green light for a camper and wants to do more of it.
do you guys have any stories of bad neighbours?
cheers - Mick

Im so old I have no idea who slipknot is!
You should try camping near the Tassie crowd they listen to Country music! Oh thats just me ;D
-
trust me, you arent losing out on much... slipknot lyrics consist of the word RRRRRRAAAAAARRRGGGHH a fair bit. not peaceful at all
-
that's why this site is so good, we know the spots that VL's and Excels can't get to
-
Had a slight issue with the neighbours at Horseyard over the Cup weekend - always busy but sometimes you get lucky. Music then swearing til early.
This was fixed by a keen eyed GG the next morning who spotted a vacated site further away....didn't get many looks driving off to a new site with a half closed KK and a couple of half open Tambo's ;D
All fixed!

we normally avoid schoolies week or first week of seniors holidays, or we just make sure we go bush this is why..
one of the worst weekends was at Coochin Creek north of Brissie, set up camp with a group, all going well, 4pm crack open the tinnie, 5pm see the youngems drive in on P plates, no tents, hmm interesting, they crack open their vb's and raid bush for firewood, raging fire, music blaring, wonderful language.....
this goes on and on then at 1am we here the crap being kicked out of one car, apparently keys were locked in glovebox by now departed girlfriend.
2am kicking is still going on, police arrive, kids get slap on wrist, settle down, police leave
half hour later kicking starts again, music starts again, wonderful colourful language now flying all around campsite as everyone were over the antics of said youngens.
7am we pack up camp and leave, youngems straglers still drinking and abusive. others in the group who stayed said youngens drove off around 9am after drinking all night.

We had a great weekend on the Gold Coast last weekend. Only complaint was our neighbour. Young couple with a 2 year old boy and one year old twins. They were obviously at the parenting stage of letting the kids cry it out. Kids did little else from 4:30am to 10pm.

Hi,
We have moved in the middle of the night because of strong wind, and I suppose we would move if nearby campers got too much.
Popular camping areas aren't our usual haunt unless the weather is such that we will be the only occupants.
cheers

From memory it was 2 years ago new years eve we were setup with family at a popular camping site in the hunter valley, As u'd expect ppl everywhere worldwide were celebrating the arrival of the new year. Well the next morning i was sitting quietly under my awning having a coffee to help get over the previous nights consumption of booze when our neighbour approached i said the traditional "good morning" only to be asked if those ppl making all that noise were my family to which i said yes, her reply was "i hope u'r not planning to party again tonight" in reply i did remind her that last night was indeed the arrival of the new year and that parties across many campsites were in full swing until all hours of the morning. She then continued walking her dog back toward her camp. Now im usually the first person to crack at the loud music and the yahoo's because im normally in bed fairly early but hey it was a special night and i just dont understand why she was cranky at us?? Anyway now that its approaching again we r indeed off to the same camping area this year and we intend to party until all hours of the morning so if any of u r camping in the hunter valley over the new years then feel free to come over and enjoy a drink or 2.

Stayed at the wongan hills caravan park in the WA wheatbelt on a wildflower trip a few years ago. Found myself next to one of those multi room Coleman tents. Bloke was obviously staying there while he had a job in the district but he had brought all the comforts of home, including his home theatre with big screen Tv and mega sound system. and his choice of Friday night DVD? Terminator 2. He started watching early so I couldn't really complain ... But it is a very noisy movie.
-
It's a good movie.
I would of grabbed some cold ones and joined him.

This is my favorite pastime and never fails to humour...well me at least:-)
As a rule we don't mind sharing other's late night music and partying, but sometime around midnight/1am I think is time to be respectful of others in the area.
About 10 years ago a group of us decided to camp overnight on the small lake in the hills behind Trawool in Central Vic. On dusk a group of 4WD's rolled on in and camped on the other side of the small lake. Out stepped about 12 adolescents mid to late 20's.
Their music selection wasn't bad and have to admit that we on the other side of the lake were enjoying it resonating across the water to our camp. 11pm, drinking and noise got louder, but music selection still not bad. 1am, still drinking and music still going. Finally around 3am, all went quiet.
Irrespective of what time I finally get to sleep, I always wake up pre dawn/5ish and thought it was only fair that I should show the same courtesey as our neighbours and share some of my music. So I started my 4wd, turned it around and backed it to face the water and the direction of our neighbours.
The lake was calm, the sun was just rising, the birds chirping and the wallabies munching on the local grass. So I figured the right music for this scene could only be 'Vivaldis 4 Seasons' and it goes for about 20minutes.
Now I'm not sure if you've ever heard Vivaldi in such a crisp serene atmosphere, but I have to say to see 12 very innebriated young people roll out of their tent at 6am in the morning and just sit in a row looking across at our camp wondering just what they could or should do, was nothing short of the most beautiful sight.
I have found the odd occasion to repeat the performance, but nothing goes down in the memory banks so well at this particular event:-)

l have had a really bad experience camping , met a bloke had a chat with him offered him a beer . >:D He then decided my Engal was the place to get , from all night . ln the morn was going into town for supplies . Confessed to emptying my supply but refused to resupply . BIG JOKE . >:D
Silly Old Bugger , that's not the way to become trusted in the community . Cheap Lesson on my part

Last Easter we were camped out the back of Lake Eildon . Eight adults and nine under eight kiddies. During our last night in camp a group rock up starting at midnight and start the fire and loud music. more arrive during the night and music/swearing etc continues until just before dawn .
We are a fairly quiet camp site with a few other groups in the area . So my missus gets up with a attitude I'm scared of and decides that it's payback time.
Rounds all the tired kids up ,arms them with pots and spoons. then they all march around our camp and theirs singing and making beautiful music . She taught them a lovely song called "I know a song that will get on your nerves , get on your nerves" .
This drew around of applause from every camp around these guys. From the others that were staying after us it was a very quiet night , that night.

One year when the backpackers roamed 10 to a troopie on Fraser Island, About dusk they would start looking for a spot to camp and that was usualy not far from some Aussy on a hard earned holiday with his family [ in some cases less than 10 mtrs away ].
Now one truck suddenly attracts all these other pink and white troopies and suddenly you have 15 of them close by [ 150 drunken drugged yelling and screaming excreating elements of the worlds youth ] rampaging in and around your camp all night..
That would rate as our worst ever experience with bad neihbours .. still wonder how much it cost them to get the trucks that wouldnd go after the storm, back to the mainland.. ;D

My bad one,
I was camping at newnes and there was these other there already set up. They had there flash camper trailer and looked down on us like their crap didnt stink, well I tell you what! I showed them when I got slipknot, pumping through the upside down double bass fully sick amps. Man should of seen there face.
>:D >:D
Ps, I'm too old also to know who snipknot is hahaha

When I was very young, V8 inboard ski boats with open pipes were the go.
I remember the oldies would stay up and we would go to bed.
The other campers were noisy.
But, being keen water skiers, as soon as sun is up, nice flat water, small block 350 chev, open pipes, 7200 rpm, oh the serenity......
Nothing better than scooting along the water at "oh my god it's early" AM in the moening.
Oh the memories.

Gday all, Just thought I'd share our experience of a bad night, was three years ago now we were set up in a state forest in the Southern Highlands, a big sign on the way in had a lot of restriction, such as no pets or motor bikes and others, the fire trails were posted for push bike tracks, through the day these tracks were used by a lot of large and small groups, as the evening drew close we found ourselves all alone. we lit a fire and cooked dinner and relaxed in the peacefulnes of the pine trees, (tranquility at its best), we retired at about 9 o'clock and was awoken at about 12 by dogs barking, I thought it must a pack chasing wildlife, they were getting closer so I looked out the window as they ran down the track near us and was surprised to see 4 or 5 Huskies towing a quad bike and going to a camp that was set up about 50 mtrs behind our camp, there were 4x4s, quads, tents and dogs everywere with a big fire blazing, obviously set in for a night of dog racing or training. The quad that was being towed had it's motor running for the headlight so he could see where he was going. We packed up and headed out to a rest area about 20 kls back along the road, at least we had a good sleep then

That would have been Wingello State Forest I reckon, there's a lot of dog sled racing done in there, should have gone 2k down the road to Belanglo, much quieter there ;D

The blokes next to us at lake Sinclair had the same one year first ski usually at half 5 so i snuck over 1 night and took the coil lead off the distributer and left a note on the boat saying that on sundays the lead will be avaliable at 07:30am. The did see the funny side and i got a couple free skis in for the weekend

G'day Redback, can't say I've heard of Belanglo, Is there a rest area or ?? Can't find it in the camps book.

Over the years I have been very lucky when it comes to bad neighbours as I can’t think of a time when we have been really annoyed. Mind you we do pick and choose where and when we go camping. We no longer go to National Parks on weekends where the bogans can drive there 2wd doof doof cars. I bought a 4WD for a reason and that allows me to do more remote camping.
Places like Fraser or Moreton are normally priced out of there range and normally your camping with likeminded families. Also at first I use to whinge about the prices private campgrounds charge, but considering they are strict on all night parting, sometimes paying the extra money for a good night sleep is worth it.
Mind you I have been involved in a incident where our group was the ones parting all night as I use to go on a yearly ‘Boys weekend’ which involves about 25 guys. We know we are noisily and for this reason we always go off-peak and pick somewhere remote on a beach and this year it happened to be main beach on Stradbroke island. We arrive and find a nice spot with no neighbours for 300m on each side and set up a large camp. That afternoon another couple turn up and decide they want to set up right next to us. We did the right thing and went over very politely and advised we are on a boys weekend with 25 guys, so did they really want to camp next to us. They basically told us to F off and they can camp wherever they want.
About 1am he comes storming over complaining about the noise (no loud music, but just drunk guys carrying on around the fire) it was then he was not so politely told we tried warning him, so now he can go jump.
Early the next morning they packed up and moved.

There is a rest stop at the turnoff into the forest, we have camped in the forest many times over the last 8yrs.
Here, Bing maps call the road in Bunglebore, but forests call it Belanglo Rd

I always liked German Oompah marching music.... really effective when pointed at hungover P-Platers at 5am in the morning.
Years ago i used to camp at the NFC Leslie Dam and the old caretaker would crank up the old His Master's Voiceor whatever it was with same music... never needed an alarm at that place that's for sure

about 20 years ago there were a few of us camped on the Murray river in WA well upstream from the usual places. At about 2am a car pulls into our camp and a few young blokes get out and tell us we need to pack up quick as there is a bushfire about 1k down the road. The night is dead still with no wind so a few of us blokes go and have a look. Sure enough they have been setting fire to the blackboys and they have started a small bushfire. The fire is low and just creeping along so we get to work with bags and bushes and beat it out.
Next morning the fire spotter plane comes over and the local volunteer firies come out to put out a couple of logs that are still smouldering.
Firies sent us a letter of thanks

About 12 years ago, travelling in FNQ with my just pregnant wife. She was not happy, quite unwell. We had made it to Cooktown, and were heading for the tip. My wife woke up in the morning, and said "I want to go home. You can go without me, if you want. Put me on a bus back to Sydney".
I thought about it putting her on a bus. Briefly.
We headed home, first stop the Daintree, some huge campground for backpacker types. We were the only people in a huge area.
We set up quickly, had dinner (not much conversation, I have to say) and went to bed early.
A campervan with a young couple in it turned up, in the dark, and parked so close to our tent I could touch the van.
They proceeded to set up camp, cooked themselves a nice meal, had a few drinks, a few laughs. They were having fun.
In between each of these things, they opened and closed the sliding door of this van innumerable times. I can still hear it. Open. Closed. Open. Closed
Then it got amorous.
They made love. Sweet love. He was fantastic. She was vocal. He was a stayer. He went for what seemed like hours. She loved it.
My wife lay rigid in the bed beside me, with her fists clenched tightly. Sick. Angry. She likes her sleep.
Not happy, Jan
My lovely wife woke me at 0500. She said lets pack and go. Now. No breakfast.
Whilst I packed up everything, she stood at the drivers side door of my Defender, and slammed the door. Over and Over.
Then she took two pots, stood over the tent and banged them together.
Repeatedly.
For a while.
We were the only two vehicles in a huge open campground.
We didn't camp again for a couple of years.
We have only just started camping again (three kids now)

Had a similar experience too ^^^ in Dundaburra on Fraser ... took my dad up for his 80th birthday, present set up camp, out fishing all day late arvo a couple pull into the bay beside us and set up their tent just a few yards from ours.... It was early into the fart sacks for us only to be woken later on by the sounds a virtuoso amourus performance with a rather vocal finish from the tent nearby .... then again with a predawn oncore with an ending that had you wondering when the Royal phillamonic orchestra was going to start playing the 1812 overture....
Said occupents of tent climbed out tent to be greeted by the cadence of clapping hands and a chorus of bravo from fellow campers all around... they quickly threw everything into the hire truck and departed ... Didnt even take a bow, which I thought was a bit rude, though best part was the my old man calling out loudly for me to find him some paddle pop sticks and a roll of sticky tape so he could have a go too ..LOL ;D

Not long ago at Moruya heads it was a long weekend all the camps behaving themselves .A couple of p platers turn up and camp spitting distance from us. It was late , we had that last one while they set up camp which was the back of the utes. A mate set his swag up under our awning which was very close to the back of the said ute.I woke up to a bit of noise went back to sleep. In the morning mate told us how he rolled over and saw the ute bouncing up and down with the couple telling each other how much they think they love each other until one of them looks down at this bearded bikey looking bloke smiling at them .Next morning we sat around waiting for them to wake up just to tell them how impressed we were with the strength of the talegate .They needed a sleep in, after all they had worked all night. They finally did to much cheering and clapping. They didn't even stay for the offered coffee.

At a catch up at Bindery Hut in the High country 2 couples arrived & set camp 500m away . 1 CT 2 couples must be good friends . They decided to go for a drive for the arvo ,,,,,Things changed on their return .
A local trail riding group of 20 riders about 30 horses . 1x10 tonne truck of gear , 2 4WD of support staff a trailer full of swags set up at the end of the valley almost on top of the hapless group . The look on the faces when they returned was just priceless to say the least . Then again a big heap of 1/2 drunk bods around a camp fire will do that every time
