We have 2 dogs. Both are still pups 1.5yr old rotty(her) and bout 10 month old danemastif(him)f. The rotty is threw the chewing everything up stage but the danemastiff isnt. I have had to rewire our camper trailer twice from him chewing it 2 pieces. Now i have to do it again. Has anyone got any ways or ideas how to stop him. I had it in plastic tube the second time and he just broke it apart. Getting sick and tired of re doing it.

Something in here to otherwise occupy him like a food cube!

I got told to apply HOT chilli sauce to some pipes my blue healer was chewing. I checked the fridge and found a few drops left over in an Los bottle. I put some sauce on the pipe but got distracted with the phone ringing and left the bottle outside. >:D
I came back 10 minutes later to find the pipe licked clean and my dog licking the lid of the sauce bottle clean as well. FAIL. ???
I bought some super stupid HOT as hell sauce, applied that to the pipe, no more problems. HO stopped chewing the PVC pipe and started on the poly pipe for the underground sprinklers instead. Eventually he grew out of it, eventually. :D

My dog I got at 10months was a digger so I put her poos on top of her fave digging spots. Maybe something similar can be done with your dog?

Run one of those battery operated electric fences around it :cup:.

BLKWDW, When we first got our pup she did exactly the same thing with the camper not to mention 2 garden hoses which she turned into irrigation hoses within an hour. The way we stopped her with the garden hose was to give her a gentle tap with the hose, but unfortunately she kept chewing the hoses but she has since grown out of it.
I'm not sure where she has chewed the wiring on the camper but ours chewed it at the trailer plug, the little bit hanging out of the drawbar , so in the end what I did was place a bucket over the hitch and placed the trailer plug inside the bucket.

But have you grown out of it yet?

This reminds me of years ago we had a Kelpie and a Red Cattle that were constantly ripping out new plants. I bought this green jelly supposed to deter dogs from the garden. That afternoon the cattle duly went around and ate all the jelly! Next morning it wasn't pretty but she recovered.

The dog is bored.. your not spending enough time with him..
We had a pure bred chocy Lab pup that ate $5000 worth of stuff before I gave him away. Pool solar, hot water piping, washing line, anything left outside, dug his way out numerous times
We were too busy to own a dog, out at 7am not home until 6-7pm...

A method we use to stop our dog barking is to have a water pistol and squirt him each time he barks - he soon learned to associate barking with getting wet and the amount of barking decreased dramatically. If you squirt your dog each time you see it chewing something it should deter him from doing it.
Most puppies chew things - in our case it was usually my wife's bras - but they grow out of it.

Management and exercise.
Management- Stop the dog getting to the campertrailer, barricade it or move it to a part of the yard where the dog can't get to.
Exercise- As someone said above the dog is more than likely bored. Give it something to do eg freeze food in a Kong, take it for a walk, take it to a reputable trainer (avoid yank and spank trainers).
-
Keep the pup occupied, give it toys to chew and it won't chew other things. It will grow out of it.

Failing all the above, try a piece of lead in his ear. :)

Had a pup that liked to chew, replaced CT wiring 3 times. 3rd time I ran it through conduit, and that stopped him...for a while. Tried the chilli sauce + other secret erbs n spices, nothing worked.
He had a lot of other bad habits as well, so in the end, instead of trying to pass the headaches onto someone else, he got a final visit to the vet!
We've currently got a 6mth shepherd who likes to dig >:( Read about dropping their poo's in the hole, but had no faith in that working, figured he's just dig elsewhere...he just digs elswhere ::)
He's certainly not bored either, toys in the yard, staffy to play with, walked 2 x a day, and I'm usually in the yard working. Now he's locked in his kennel of a night, and chained when no supervision for large lengths of time, hopeing after a while he'll forget about digging.
So only suggestion I could give is to chain him up when he'll be without supervision,. But have yet to see if that theory works

Ya beat me to it but I was going to suggest a lead asprin!

We have a one year old who still likes to dig should probably discourage her more but the yard is not great anyway and she has another dog to play with who sometimes helps her dig. What about the spray you get at bunnings keep off the grass it is to stop them from toileting in places I thought but is said they don't like the smell so stay away. I have heard that citrus is good sprayed where you don't want them too. It just depends on the dog BIL dog has eaten numerous things like tube builders cement, capping off the deck, sprinkler system, some garden plants, ratsak and has survived it all. When we looked after him he chewed the phone wire (apparently the blue wire hurts not the dog the BF fixing it) and he ate a packet of windscreen wiper blades. Love them even with their quirks hope he stops it for you soon.

Our lab ate everything, included the white plastic chairs we got to replace the outdoor setting she ate....... But now at 2 she hasn't chewed anything for awhile

Hook the cables up to a battery before you rewire and let the dog chew. It might go back a second time but it wont go back for thirds.

I have a Lab as well.
We have a sign that says,
"Once upon a time I had a beautiful garden.

Reminds me of an old bush mans saying.
A puppy takes two years to become a dog.
If it's a lab, make that four!

That's why I got rid of my Golden retriever years ago. Beautiful dog but my back yard was becoming a disaster zone. It was either me or him. Easy choice :)
-
I got a Lab and she's a ripper. She's now 3 and all she has ever done is sleep all the time, she even fakes being asleep when I get the lead out for a walk! I love that dog :)

How do you turn your Lab into a Boxer dog?
Place it's food dish against a brick wall :D
We had a Lab, she stayed in puppy mode her whole 11 yrs. :)
