My wife initially refused to talk about sleeping in a tent on our planned trip to the Cape in 2014 and insisted we look at roof top campers. Can anyone provide some info on the pros and cons of sleeping on the ground?

My initial thoughts are goana's and crocs can't climb and I think I would sleep better up off the ground.

The big problem with a roof top tent, once you have setup camp, that's it you can move the vehicle, unless you pack up. That becomes a real pain it you are staying in one location for more than one night.
Problem solved mount it on top of a light weight trailer. with a decent 4WD suspension setup. :cup:

That's been my setup for a couple of years now, and it been great.

just did the trip this year in a swag went with people with rooftops that got sick of having to pack everything up if you wanted to go anywhere we were at the tip for a few days and even going for a run to the shops to pick up supplies they had to pack it all away a tent you could just leave standing at your camp site no worries

Getting up and down the ladder after a few beers could be a problem all so the 3am wee wee
The tent would be a better option

Agree, a tent would be the best option.
