Does Australia have an Area 51 or the like - same as what the yanks have out in Nevada
I got told we have something out near Coober pedy...
I have no idea
Cheers

It's called Maralinga. That's where they tested the bombs.
-
Over here its called Canberra........... ;D ;D ;D

Pine Gap is a Yank base in OZ, think there is a No Fly exclusion zone around it.
-
Woomera would be the closest. It's was used as a rocket base and testing area. Over the years there has been the odd test fighter or aircraft there to test weapons platforms.
Maralinga was a testing site used for Atomic weapons. Some islands in WA were used as well. i have a fantastic Ben Cropp documentry at home where he goes to these WA sites with a gieger counter and explores marine life, or lack off it. Maralinga has now been handed over to the original tribe. Pine Gap is a listening facility and is highley restricted but wasn't used for weapons testing as far as I know.
There is a rocket museum or something at Woomera nowdays.

We have our own area 51 in Sydney, more specifically south west Sydney. Lots of weapons testing there and definitely a no go area.

That would be the Montebello Islands? I have done a lot of fishing and diving there in the last few years - fish life is amazing, there is one island there that has a couple of bunkers and there is a sign that says no more than 1 hour on the island due to radiation levels (from memory).
-
Sounds right. The dodo is from the seventies. Well worth a watch if you can find it. Iirc it was only the steel remnants that were still holding radiation. Britain admitted years later they concealed the real strength of those bombs from the Australian government.

Wasn't that the Brits ???

Woomera is a very interesting town. It was only officially opened as a town in 83. We stopped in for a few nights a couple of years ago. There are plenty of "no go zones" however nothing like an Area 51.
-
Some no go zones around the bay in Melb. Ex military sites that are probably home to the Roswell aliens!! Or more likely heavy metal/asbestos contamination.
-
Pine Gap -you will probably get shot
Katherine airforce base we went down the acess road to watch the F18's come in one arvo and were politly told to bugger off
-
Swan Island in Port Phillip Bay is definitely a no go zone. Rumored to be a training ground for Australia's Black Op's.
-
Heading to Vegas in May. Will be driving the ufo highway, and might go as close as possible to area51 as you can get.

In our house, where I test bombs, its called a toilet and the ol girl reckons it has an exclusion zone after I've used it. ;D
-
Not saying I know anything, but if I did, and I told you, I'd have to kill you...................
-
About half of Tassie is a no go zone. Rumour has it they used to cut trees down in it. The Indonesians or whoever could set up a listening base there and nobody would know ;D

Man, I gotta join UFO Research Queensland Incorporated. They obviously give out the booze and drugs for free!
No need to look to the skies to find a few Space Cadets

There are also a few airstrips and military bases / installations that you come across
on google throughout the country I have found whislt researching trips etc.
There was on I found a while back in the middle towards the west, had three of
what looked like hardened bunkers a few taxi ways between then and a single
long strip. Not named, I did an internet search but no hits. Have also seen what
appears to be quite large bases with a few buildings in remote areas, again no
names or cars or any other activity to be seen.
