Title: Bridle strap
Post by: chester ver2.0 on November 06, 2013, 01:10:40 PM
Hi guys quick question will a tree trunk protector suffice for a bridle strap. Due to front end design of the Dmax i would like to spread the load across both recovery points

I haven't really had the need to use one that much so I don't have one. I have used chain a few times to spread out the load. This was mainly as a training aid for when I used to teach winching. The chain wasn't really required.

Are you sure you need a bridle strap? i would have presumed your recovery points would be more than strong enough but i havnt had much to do with the DMAX before.  if you think it would better suite your DMAX I can't see why a tree trunk protector would not be a great substitute unless you need the tree trunk protector for a tree trunk. ;D

I have a TTP, snatch and winch extension. The snatch and winch ext get the most work.

Yes it will.  The training provided by an accredited 4wd trainer includes the use of a rated tree trunk protector as a bridle.  In fact it is recommended for all recoveries, spread the load across the chassis and mandatory for monocoque vehicles  (eg late model Pajero).

Yeah unfortunatly i am having to use the OE tow points atm as no one seems to make a recovery point for the new Dmax. Yes i know the issues  and i am not going into debate it is purerly to reduce the risk if i have to be recovered from the front usually a rear recovery or the maxtrax do the job

Mate I've been using an arb tree trunk protector for a couple of years now with no issues. With using factory points for the time being, just be sure to put a good dampener close to your vehicle to stop any potential recoil.
