Title: Camper Laptop Stand
Post by: Fingerbone Phil on October 30, 2013, 10:30:55 PM
When me and the missus go camping, quite often when we go to bed we watch a movie or a TV show we have saved to the laptop.

Problem was we would put a plastic tub on the bed to sit the laptop on, it would take away our leg room and was always a little low so I decided to build a laptop stand.

Most of the tubes are glued together but the centre T isn't, that way I can angle the bracket holding the laptop any way I want. It also enables me to store the stand almost flat when packed up.

Probably the week link of this stand is the long vertical PVC tube, it bends a little bit so I cut two C clips in half and glued them together to match the angles of the vertical PVC pole and the angled steel pole in the camper. This keeps the stand stable, I will probably swap out the vertical PVC pole for a steel pole next trip.

I found this squarish flange at BCF and glued in the middle a PVC end cap for the vertical tube to sit in, originally I intended to screw this mount in to the camper but it seems fine just sitting there.

I had a lot issues finding a glue to glue the C clips together and the square flange and the end cap, turned out some cheap $2 araldite from the reject shop did the trick.

What a great idea.

Just one question, is the laptop stable,if you kicked or bumped it could it fall off???

I would think if you kicked it hard enough it may fall off, I am going camping tomorrow, it will be the first time we are going to use it, so when I set it up I will give it a bit of a kick to judge.

I reckon if I screwed the base down and used a metal vertical pole there would be no issues at all.

The other thing you could add is some sort of strap to make sure the laptop doesn't fall off.

All simple additions I think.

Good job there Phil, I had the same problem and after wracking my brain trying to think of something on the market to utilise I gave up and like yourself, made my own.
Mine's just made from ply with a few bits of chain to hang from the tent roof (or anywhere else you can hang stuff); when not in use she closes up together, chains inside and clamps shut.

They may not be the prettiest things in the world Phil, but they work ;)

Nice job there JBird!  :cup:

I wasn't able to employ that sort of design with mine as with our camper we sleep 90 degrees around from the way your camper is setup and didn't have anything to attach a design like yours to.

I wonder if anyone else has made a stand for there laptop.

No doubt others have run into the same problem; maybe we should go into the laptop for ct business
