Had a custom camper made in Brisbane off road 5x4 trailer with a roof top tent and have been charged $820.00 to freight to Rockhampton looking for feed back from members on here do you think that is expensive or reasonable. The Drawbar is 1500mm long and to the top of roof top tent is approx 2 metres weighs approx 360kg. Cheers

Lad paid about that to get a LWB Hiace van from Bris to Adelaide but then it went on a car carrier run as and when they were ready so it's not all about distance. Can be about weight but often volume is the main factor and can they load on top of it. In that respect your camper is probably not bang for buck semi-wise.

You cold drive down and pick it for less than half that, or offer the same coin to somebody here to tow it up for you. I reckon you might get a few offers. For $820, I would even personally deliver it to your door. It would only cost me $200 in fuel for the round trio.
Throw it out there mate, I reckon you may be surprised. Some extra coin just before Xmas is always a good thing.

Thanks for the replies yes as I thought seems a bit on the steep side because the roof top sits high above the trailer I guess they might not be able to put items above it which may be jacking the price up cheers thanks again

Contact the camper trailer manufacturers and find out who they use. You might save some money.

Bne to Melb might be backload rates and that's also a consideration here. x2 with the camper supplier as they've often had the experience and know the pitfalls. We used to load steel house framing and I had a couple of subbies I'd trust to see you didn't get a mangled mess. Some country folk would use their local truckie and they'd roll up and rely on us completely to load their semi because they know we know all the pitfalls. Occasionally you'd get Eddie the eggspert and noone's gunna tell him how to load his effing semi, cos he's been trucking since we were in nappies, yada, yada and I actually refused to load one such bloke and pissed him off with some explaining to do for the country client.
So here's a bright shiny new camper in the depot and how does the customer want it? For starters he'll want some carpet on the forklift tines when we lift it and he won't want drums and equipment, etc chafing any part of it, nor a pallet of fertiliser or cement on top and have you measured outside of guard to outside of guard lately and realised a semi tray is only 2400 wide? How long's a piece of string and what's cheap transport at your end on pickup eh?

Foxtel A&E has a program called Shipping Wars where a company (U Ship???) has a website you log on the details of what you need shipped and when, and a bunch of truck/van/trailer owners bid on the job.
Of course, this being a TV "reality program" may well mean it does not exist, but it seems like a good idea.

Yea I had a yarn to the freight company because the roof top tent sits high above the trailer level with the roof rack on the jeep they can not get another trailer above it all good trailer was delivered today in a1 condition. I would of picked up myself but had both 4wds under repairs and really wanted it for the weekend cheers for the replies

I'm doing a sales trip starting in Rocky in the first week in December, If you can wait till then my first leg is a lazy drive from Brissy to rocky on the Sunday. I you wanted me to tow it there for you there would be no cost involved as the fuel in my Hilux is already paid for. As I tow my own camper with it it has an electric brake controller fitted if required.
Of course you will need to have your insurance etc all sorted, if you wanted to come down on the train/bus/plane for the ride back that would also be no problem.
