Title: One for the mods "classified ads"
Post by: jetcrew on October 29, 2013, 05:04:43 PM
Ok I might get flamed here but here goes..

It is very annoying when people don't use the template for ads in the for sale section.

The mods have placed a template up there, which was compiled to make ads easy to read and give prospective buyers info regarding the item and location ect.

Am I asking too much to expect people to follow the rules of the section ?

I propose that if you can't be bothered using the template then the ad should be removed..

what's everyone else's thoughts

I concur!  Some of these posts get really hard to read. The Trostre is not just about what info to give,  it's also about how to present it so everyone can easily read and understand it. I'm a graphics teacher and I have, in the past, used hard-to- read ads from here as examples for students of what NOT to do when presenting info.
Cheers!

Yep. I agree we should stick to the template. It makes it much easier to read.

Simple rule, use the template or have the post deleted.  Easy as.

I agree with what Jet has said, it does not take much to follow the lead and makes for easier reading.

well i personally couldnt give a rats what format its in, nor what information they include either for that matter... if they dont have a price or location etc, makes it hard to sell and thats their problem as far as i see it.

I'd like to see a phone number on all ads...

I reckon <5 feedback people need to leave a mobile number at least.

Was easy to call Theo last night and ask about his lights he has for sale instead of playing PM tennis for days

X2, but sick of seeing first time poster putting up items for sale.

I agree with Jet.

Some of the ads on here are terrible. If you want to sell something, you need to display the information, price, location and photos in a logical order.

Simple really - use the template!

The thing is Myswag is a fantastic community of people and I always place items up here for sale first a bit lower than I would price things on ebay/gumtree , because it,s like selling to a mate on here. ;D ;D

To make our classifieds work well the template needs to be used, by enforcing this we stop the crap of first time posters simply posting a link to their add on another network or forum.

why is this beneficial, because it shows that they are prepared to take their shoes off at the front door rather than trape mud all through the house.  ;D

I am member on a few forums and can't imagine not following the house rules so to speak.

It would only take a week of clean out to render the classifieds a good usable section , that is not burning up bandwidth with 100's of replies to simply obtain the info the OP could not be bothered providing in the template.

use the template or have the add deleted would be my mantra .. pretty quickly people will use it if they want to sell the item.

Except the blow ins....

4 things that worked on another forum
1 - template - no template, 1 warning - not fixed, deleted.
2 - no replies to forsale ads.. everything was done by PM.. stops the "I can get that for $1.00 your asking $10,000??" posts
3 - Phone numbers are a must. - common sense.
4 - ads only last 30 days then you can put them back up. Keeps everything fresh, and stops the 1 posters posting and disappearing and nobody knows if Shit is sold.

Remember Mods are volunteers too.  it can be hard to have a life, and run trips, and look after fosale ads...

I am happy to clean them out, I was cleaning up the general sale section and there are ads over a year old the other day. I will be more diligent and enforce the template. The ads that are older than 3 months old for a start will be deleted.

Personally I'm not fussed,,, as long as the ad is clear and understandable...
But..... I think we need a minimum number of posts from new members before they are allowed to use the classified section..

On AHN we lock new members out of the classifieds until they make 5 posts........stops the fly by nighters using it like ebay, encourages the shy ones to stick a toe in the water and say hello........and I agree a phone number gives a nice audit trail if the unfortunate happens and some dishonesty occurs.

Yer I agree with BHG,

I don't have a drama if its not in a format as such, as long as a reader can read it, as for locations and prices etc, if they don't put it in the add then there problem I say.

However, I think that a minimum number of posts (20 springs to mind) should be a rule prior to advertising in class section, this will stop the drop ins trying to sell there bits, without being a real member of the forum so to speak, prob make the mods life a bit easier to, they wont have spend hours deleting chit.
