I was with much sadness today that we farewelled our friend of over 14 years - Millicent. She was a loyal friend, and a fighter til the end, but it was time to let her go. Milli will always be in our hearts , and never forgotten. <3 A very emotional day for all. Mrs Chippy, the boys and I are all heartbroken ...
Cheers Chippy :(

They really do become part of the family and it is amazing how we feel when they go. We watched ‘Red Dog’ again last night and again got sad when he went. Feeling for you guys. Bye bye Millicent. :'(

Sorry to hear your sad news.
My most loyal blue healer "Jock" died in 2007. He was 14 years old when I had to put him down after his fight with cancer. I couldn't bury him in our yard as I knew we were going to move interstate and after his loyalty I just couldn't leave him behind. I had him cremated in NSW, took him on out move to QLD and he now resides in our bar area. Even after 6 years I still think about how special he was. I am glad I took him with us.

Oh No Chippy76! She'll be with my Jack & Digger by the Rainbow Bridge for sure ... they'll keep her company till you drop by to get her.
Thinking of you and your family at this difficult time ...

Thanks for all the lovely words folks, Today was a difficult day at work. But even harder when I got home and saw her empty kennel. We have organised to have her cremated, and Lis bought me a Rose to plant in the garden when we scatter her ashes. I intend to spruce up on of the long neglected gardens as a memorial to her.
I felt it was fitiing to post the following pics too ...
Cheers Chippy :D

Sorry to hear about Milli going to the never-ending beach in the sky. It is so hard to lose your sidekick. There is no other loyalty like that of a cattle dog. Along with Kit_e's mates, my beloved bluey Skip will be up there looking out for Milli.
It does get easier, but you never forget. Two and a half years on and we still talk about Skip most days. His collar hangs behind the front door and his tags rattle like a door bell each time we open it. I know that sound a mile away.
Milli will always be watching over and guarding you!

They brought a tear to the eye. A few years ago we had to get one of my old horses put down a friend gave me a stoneplaque type thing that said "this tree is planted in memory of a loving companion. Xox
Stozz that was a lovely post we have a cattle/staffy cross up there that we lost last year Dash will be running with them too probably trying to get them into mischief

Gee chippy, I'm tearing up here mate... One of our border collies is over 16 yrs so we are preparing for the day..... It's going to be hard.....
-
Chippy ... she's definitely RIP ... Running In Paradise ... as all Good Dogs do eventually.
Think of the good days ... one day soon, you will put the heartache away and smile when you think of Millicent.
I still get a bit teary when I think of my lost ones ... but I loved their faces, personalities, quirky habits, annoying barks, their hair all over the floor, couch, clothes, food ... but now I smile ... those things are treasured memories ... and they will help you ... it takes time.
I would love to "plant" them as you will do. I want to plant them somewhere that I know won't be disturbed in my lifetime. I want to plant them (bit by bit) where they loved life the most ... Camping ... but I haven't had the heart to do it yet.

Chippy, I lost my best mate Scamp ( aussie terrier ) a few years ago now.
It was hard to take back then and I still think of him every day.
I didn't have to put him down. He started to go blind but knew his way around the yard without a problem. I taught him not to jump up on people as he had sharp claws, so he use to just come up to you, sit down and lift his front leg to shake your hand. I got home from work one day and he always met me at the gate, but this time he wasn't there. I called out to him and he came out to me and instead of sitting down and shaking hands he jumped up on me and looked up at me with a strange look in his eyes. I said "what's up mate" and he just kept looking at me slowly losing grip of my leg and then he was gone. :'( :'(. He jumped up to say goodbye I reckon. Wow I miss him.
All the best Chippy.

Ohhhhh. so sad. He probably hung on all day until you got home so he could do that. That is loyalty for you.
