Title: One of our first Astronaughts passes away at 88

Mightn't mean much to many swagg'rs but this guy had a profound impact on my 51yrs of life.

I saw this on the news last night. He was the back up astronaut for John Glen, when he went into space, but later travelled into orbit himself and fourth person to enter space.  Had a short career, after crashing his motor bike and breaking an arm, I believe.  Sounds like he was made of the right stuff. :)

I feel so old today ! These guys were my school time hero's ! What flights of fantasy  I used to escape into because of their exploits . Scrap books full of all the newspaper stories for years and years ! I became the schools info expert on all those brave men.  Vale astronaut Scott Carpenter ,safe journey !

I think these guys were driven more by passion and pride....fear never came into it
