Title: Portable Hammock
Post by: kiwi_camper on October 05, 2013, 09:54:54 AM
I'm looking at getting a portable hammock but there doesn't seem to be a lot around (in AU) that don't rely on tying them to trees (I know a lot of places don't encourage you tying clothes lines, hammocks etc to trees) or come with bulky, heavy stands (more suitable for around home). I have seen a few good ones from the US but before committing I thought I'd ask what other people have.

Kiwi,

We carry a hammock in our camper all the time. It is an ebay one which requires trees. I have set it up before to one tree and the roof rack...maybe if travelling in a group set it up to two roof racks.

I haven't seen the stands that I'd call portable enough for camping.

I agree Tim. Some portable hammocks I've seen don't look very portable and others don't look very robust either.

We bought a cheapy double hammock online about 2 years ago and haven't had an issue. We paid about $80 from memory but have now seen them at $39 here http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/outdoor-furniture/hammocks/ which is where I think we bought ours from. We don't leave it set up out in the weather and just take the material off the frame at night.

Hope this helps.

My wife likes hers.  It has the frame and we carry it strapped to the top of our drawbar box.

I saw some of the foldup ones at Aldi today looks like it folds smaller than the one we carry in the camper which has it's own frame and all folds down.
