Title: any LC 76 series owners
Post by: weeds on October 03, 2013, 01:30:54 PM
i never thought i would be asking the question........but i have to be realistic and assess all options

am i right that 2010 on has the upgraded dash?

what do i look out for in a second hand unit?

is the GXL worth the extra dollars?......keep in mind i haven't even looked inside one of these rigs yet.

does the air-con cope with queensland summer?

what real time fuel economy can i expect.......my current rig returns around 13L/100 towing 1.3T

cheers

Hi Weeds. They have a similar basic feel to a Defender
We have one at work which I avoid driving in favour of a Prado. I don't need the extra 4wd ability 99% of the time.

I think you will be surprised how small they are internally.

11.6L/100km is what I got last tank. That is 100% highway. Never towed with it.
They do feel powerful and they are but I think that feel also has a lot to do with the low gearing. I'm always looking for 6th gear on the highway.

Ours is a 2010 and it has a single front cup holder. I know the 2009 model didn't so maybe it does have the newer dash.  It is a GXL.

No cruise control. Bugger all wheel travel. However like a Defender or old Disco they have excellent vision out the side of the car and over the bonnet so you can place the wheels easily.

No ABS but has twin airbags.

They only have one 90L tank as they are too short to get the other one.

They ride rough and the seats suck but other than that you do get used to them.  I find two hours driving at a time is enough. Anything more than that and you are just counting down the minutes til you can get out. That is down to the seats mostly though.

I'm no fan of them but they have their place.
