Hi
I am after some advice. I have purchased a ct which is currently registered in nsw. I live in qld and will be travelling to pick it up next weekend.
Seller is keen to ensure everything is done right, as he doesn't want any infringements etc.
Can anyone explain how I do it? Do I get a nsw permit to transport or a qld permit? It is currently registered.
Thanks
Chris

Not sure on the qld rules but in nsw they tell you to get a permit from the place you will be towing to.
I had to ask a few years ago when i picked up a tandem car trailer in vic to bring to nsw, RTA just said pay for the permit to drive it in nsw and i will be fine.
Got pulled up showed the paperwork and was sent on my merry way.
I think the permit cost me around $40/24hours seeing i was only 3hours drive i had plenty of time to pick up and get it home.
Does the seller not want to pass on the rego of the trailer? they can just sign the back of the forms and then its your responsibility to take it from there, uless buying new then you will need the unregistered permit.

It is a good question. To be honest I dont know. I reckon getting a permit from the RTA to take the trailer unregistered through NSW would only apply to NSW. I cant imagine how a NSW permit would allow you to travel through QLD. I would guess that you would need a DMR permit to travel through QLD roads and an RTA permit for NSW roads.

I guess it maybe a rego transfer/disposal?

I bought trailer in NSW and moved it to VIC. The previous owner filled out the transfer
of ownership on back of last NSW rego papers. The transfer into my name atVicRoads used
this paper work to confirm VIN of trailer and letter that can be sent back to NSW for refund of
unused rego. One pain was I had to book the trailer in for an inspection.

We bought our trailer new in nsw. Got a permit from nsw rta to bring back to Qld. But if it is registered, the current owner just needs to fill out a notice of disposal form and sign the back of rego papers for you

I have done this twice now, for Vic it was easier to do it as an unregistered vehicle permit, got the permit in NSW and drove it to home, Vic Roads said NSW permit was valid to get to home.
I would ring QLD rego mob and ask them personally.

Same for Qld mate. Can't see why the op needs one though as the trailer is registered. Buy it drive it home, transfer rego from nsw to Qld once you get home

Same here, its got rego now, so it should be no probs.
You don't need a permit to travel the country etc.
Get some insurance though....

As others have said its registered so just drive down and tow it Hm. I bought the storm from Sydney the owner towed it to tenterfield which was much appreciated. Pretty sure they just signed the transfer form but can't remember exactly. Just double check with the main roads here. My best advice was to do a revs check inside 24 hrs prior to pick up to check there are no encumbrances and you will be fine. Once here the usual gas and road worthy certs will need to be paid for before transferring the rego over. Good luck with the new purchase
