Hi, just fitted an aerial to the roof rack. It's a screw on type. Have any members found any way of stopping the aerial being " half inched" when parked (other than removing it). Any way to secure it.
Thanks
Tony

Hard way - tap a thread in the antenna base and fit a grub screw
Easy way - Loctite

Hide it with this

I think you'll have less issues with this on your roof rack.
Perhaps it depends on the type you have, I know when I had one of the big GME fibreglass units folks had tried to pilfer it, foiled by the hen screw, but with the smaller stainless and rubber coated 4018K(?) it's been on the bullbat for years and there is nothing to secure it, but it's still there.

Sorry, no idea, came here by accident. Thought this was one of jeepers threads joking about aerial manoeuvres from the bed head after dark. My mistake I guess!

Scalar attennas already come tap with 3mm/1/8 grub screw and the base has a recess turned into so the screw does not damage the thread.

Thanks guys
D4D - don't want to drill and loctite would be too permanent.
Bushbandit - I have a home made fold down bracket on the rack that can be swivelled.
BigJules - it's a 320mm ZCG aerial.
I'm thinking that if I go down to the woods, I may be in for a surprise when I come back from exploring or walking and it's gone. I was thinking about some way to tether it to the rack.
Mace - have to agree with the other guys.
Jim - it's a ZCG Scalar but its not tapped for a grub screw - unless some of the larger Scalar aerials are tapped.
Appreciate the ideas.

Yeah, my large ZCG has the grub screw but my little flexible 40cm ZCG one doesn't. But it is easily unscrewed by hand so I just take it off and pop it in the cab if need to. Actually leave them both off around town and just have the rubber cap on the spring mount as I don't use the radio locally.
