Title: New (facelifted) 2014 Prado
Post by: markymark on August 26, 2013, 11:29:52 PM

Well it doesn't look much more than a big toothy grin - here's hoping they do something to bring the old diesel up to speed!

its very nice inside, I really like that.
But I can imagine that it is going to look odd with a bullbar. sorta like how the colorado/colorado7 looks when one is fitted to them.

Cheers

yeah classy indeed. The bullbar is going to have to be a foot or so tall to cover those headlights, can imagine the ARB/TJM crews scratching their heads to figure this one out.

Mark.

Bit of a Chad Morgan look from front on.

Oh well, the BT50 went all Dame Edna on us (especially with particular bullbars) , so why not  ;D

That gap around the grill is huge. A 'roo would go straight through that - useless!

Pretty much, not my cup of tea. Then again I'm driving a car that hasn't really changed since 1998. So I'm probably not the best critic haha.

I don't mind the design.

It would be interesting with a bull bar on the front.

I was turned away from the prado because of the ugly interior, plus cost etc It would be good if they put a newer engine into it also.....

I don't know why they changed shape so drastically after the 120 series by far the best looking prado shape IMO

Have to do something with computer power... Just imagine designing this 'by hand'.

Maybe they did do it by computer but while they had a bag over their head sitting in the ugly tree me thinks.  ;D
I agree it all went downhill after the 120 shape..

Style is a subjective thing - so what actually is it that makes a vehicle look 'good' or 'ugly'?

Title: Re: New (facelifted) 2014 Prado

The 150 is already a good vehicle, and capable.

The DRLs seem a little out of place, but I think it will be OK. The interior is a step up, but Toyota have really missed an opportunity in not doing much to the D4D engine. Euro V or something and an improvement in fuel efficiency, but still a long way behind the Europeans (60Kw/150Nm).

They might upgrade the Diesel engine one day, and throw in a rear locker option while at it ;D

I want to run a theory I was given past you all.
The authorities want no bull bars to be fitted to cars. Something to do with pedestrians being hit etc etc. I was also told they are trying to develop air bags for the front of cars for the pedestrians when they are hit.
So, with this in mind, do you think the car makers are going to do everything they can to make designing and fitting a bull bar really hard?

that doesn't even come into it..

to be honest, those that wish to put a bullbar on their vehicle are a very small market in comparison to those that don't. a vehicle make builds for the masses, not the niche.

they will make changes for country specific design rules however.

I actually dont mind it. I do own a 150 already though. Not sure how a bullbar will go though, thats a huge/grill headlight area to cater for.

Unfortunately the primary market for'real' 4x4s is becoming the 'eastern suburbs mums taxi service'.  Those who wish to use them off-road are getting to be a smaller minority.  Even among the 'Nomads' it is relatively few who venture away from the sealed road caravan park route.  Therefore it is getting harder to source a vehicle which is genuinely 'suited' to our purposes. And, with the increasingly tough design standards / greater complexity of design and construction, it is harder / more $$$ to produce after market bolt on solutions to our purposes.  :(

B&B... there are more 4WDs from more manufacturers that EVER.

Look back to the mid 1980s and we had Land Rover, Patrol, Cruiser, Jackeroo, Pajero and that's about all. It's easier now than every to find a vehicle 'suited to our purposes' (whatever that means...?)

Pathfinder was the first vehicle styled for the recreational market (penned by Nissan Design in CA and launched in 1986) and Pajeros - the ones with the big sunroof and velour trims - were being called 'mum's taxi' in 1993...!

We'll all get used to the new Prado!

I would have preferred that they overhauled the D4D than simply facelifting the 150  >:(   Unfortunately, that just aint gonna happen!

I saw a white Kakadu on the road the other day, it actually looks better in the flesh, but still not as good as the 120 :)
