Title: IT Techie Folk ... HELP!
Post by: Kit_e_kat9 on August 23, 2013, 11:54:32 PM

Hey,

Just got a new tablet (Pipo M9 from China 2 days ago) running Jellybean V2.0 and the "PhotoGridWidget has stopped" and won't let me access anything anywhere.  I've pushed the RESET button.  Still nothing will remove the notification.  Pushing OK doesn't either.

Errr ... Can't even turn it off from the screen.

Reset does turn it off, but turning it back on I get the same stupid notification as above and can't do anything at all.  So at the moment, it appears to be an expensive coaster.

Gday Kit_e,

Sounds as though you may have been jipped. Jellybean started on Android release 4.0. Prior to that it was called Ice Cream Sandwich. If you've bought an Android device with Jellybean 2.0 you've had a fast one pulled on you.

See if you can shut the app down using the icon to the immediate right of the home icon (2 rectangles). Once you hit that icon it will show what apps are running. Swipe the photogridwidget app to remove it, which should stop it from running.

Cheers, Marschy (Nexus 7 Android Jellybean 4.3)

Thanks Marshy,

Thanks for the assistance.  It's android 4.2.2 (I assume there is a 4.2.1?).  Being UN-Techie that was my bad - Just figured it was another version of the lolly.  Interesting to hear they call them after confectionery of all types.  At least they won't run out of new names too soon.   ;D

At start up ... if I wait ... the Widget starts up and all I get is an option to push OK ... nothing else.  There is a "U turn arrow" and an "opened envelope" at the bottom of the screen (in the surround as such) ... nothing else but sound up and sound down.

Reset button appears to simply turn the machine off, so that's about as helpful as the proverbial rats behind.  I'll restart it and see if I can get the two rectangles of which you speak.

Err ... nope.  No rectangles.  Just as mentioned above ... a Uturn arrow and an opened envelope.  But I did notice a circle this time which apparently denotes "google" ... If only I'd managed to get it connected to the internet.  Was still working out how to do that precisely - as in connected yes ... on a website no.

the u turn arrow is 'back', and the open envelope is 'home', do either of those work?

Any chance of a screen shot?

WooHoo!

After many, many, many, many, many, many (did I say many?) resets (the only way to turn it off really) and a lot of stuffing around, touching whatever I could during the 2 or 3 seconds before the error came up ... all seems to be well.   :cup:  Although I'm still going to wonder for how long?  I immediately went and removed the wallpaper I'd added (a photo of our camp one trip) and I don't think I'll touch that again.

Yes Marshy, the 2 rectangles did eventually come up again, but wouldn't do anything at the time.

Now, how do I remove said pesky Widget?

You can remove the widget by going into Settings then Apps, touch the widget once you locate it, then there should be an uninstall option

Thank You Marshy!

Seems I have a lot to learn about this new device.  I feel it's going to both frustrating and fun!

Are you trying to connect to the Internet with Wi-Fi or 3G?

Damn ... before I could attempt to remove anything ... the dreaded Notification Message is back.  *sigh*  I do have a second story window here ... might remove the screen first though.

Trying to connect via WiFi ... don't have anything 3G to connect with yet.  I was able to sign in and connect, just not get "on the net" ... was telling me it had issues with something or other (settings?? I forget it's been so long ago ha ha).

Calling China is $0.90 per minute.  How long do you think it'd take to fix this via phone?

  Hi there

Sounds like you are in a pickle.

I am currently at my desk in Shenzhen China.  I can try and assist you to solve the problem.

If you can scan and send the sales docket to fdipacific@gmail.com i will call the English hot line and see if i can get some answers.  Make sure the serial number is included in the details you send.   If you can't scan and send PM me with as many details as you can.

I have an ASUS transformer running the same version.  It has an issue with the Photo Calgary.  Rendered it useless.  Looking on the net i found that there seems to be an unresolved problem with that particular software.

Regards

Peter

LOL! Scarps!  If I give you my Credit Card and Signature could you please bill me for only $2,000,000.00 and still not solve my issue?  That would be so nice for you to do so.

Apparently I have to upgrade the firmware as "Sometimes it will work after upgrading" I'm told.  But then on the other hand I'm also told "problems arising from wrongly upgrading is due to users" on their website ... which gives me no amount of encouragement that what I'm about to do will work 100% ... especially since all the download options are in Chinese  ???  ... hope I'm pushing the right buttons.  ;D

IT'S ALIVE!  Yay!

I have successfully beaten the aforementioned Widget  >:( into a state of unconsciousness thanks to a lovely Techie Person  :-* on an Android development forum.  How I love that person so!   :-*

Okay, we solved this by frustratingly attempting to beat the widget and it's infernal OK pushing requirement, by clicking other things after clicking the all dreaded OK on the horrible  >:D nasty widget  >:(  This took me some time, some swearing, some thoughts about how good the tablet would look after tossing it from a second story window and a few stiff drinks for determination and resolve, but I got to the settings in the end.  I was able to click Factory Reset  ;D and the required YES ;D before the horrible  >:D nasty widget  >:( could OK me into insanity and the tablet in the post back to China for a foot stomping repair!   :'(

Factory Reset went well  ;D and all is now good in Kit_e's world.   :cup:  I can now blog onsite whilst camping (or at least write it), check the weather (yes simply looking to the sky is just not enough ;)  ), and I-Read an E-Book (or *sssshhhh* play some Candy Crush) whilst the Man is sleeping.

Yeah well I do have to figure out how to get it off the internet and on to the tablet ... and I'm already addicted (or is that stuck on another blardy level) to it and another few games.

Plystore is your friend for apps on Android

Thanks Marshy ... first I need to figure out how to get it on the internet.  It's 3G for camping, but also has Wifi which would be preferred at home ... it tells me it's connected to my Wifi (netgear wrn200), but I can't get on a website yet.  "Can not connect to Server" ... so I have to nut that out alas.   ::)  Be easier if the Manual was explanatory, but it's in simplistic English and not overly detailed.

I disabled that pesky widget though!

are you using a 3g modem card thingy for wireless? We have massive issues with them at work.. there was a patch we found for it.

Na ya shouldnt.
Wireless should work if you have signal, correct security settings both ends (Modem and device).

I wasn't sure if you were using one of the newer 3G things or not thus why I mentioned it (but sounds like I confused things more).
But it is exactly the issue we were having with Telstra and some new setup at work.

Does your modem have a firewall ?
Do you need to "allow" the Android to get through the firewall ?
Firewall could be blocking whatever browser your Android is using ..

Just a thought ...

Phew!  Ya had me going there for a minute   ;D  I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing, so that'll be the problem for sure, getting the correct settings at both ends.  I did try using the PC as a network, but I'm not sure what I'm doing there either.

I have learned that you can't download the apps to your PC and then doova them across with a USB.    :'(

But I'm learning and one day will be able to wing it successfully on all fronts!

Urrrr - Yes you can - at least on mine I can - Just need the APK installer app .. All you do is copy the APK to the directory the installer can see and it will
install the app for ya..

Thanks Mandrake.

I had read that one must download APK to the PC and go from there, but was told it only worked with Chrome (hate Chrome) and it simply refers you to 3rd party sites but not the PlyStore ... not so keen on 3rd party sites due to nasty bugs one can pick up from them.  I'm off to learn more about what you suggest.
