Title: Bathurst 1000 2013
Post by: evans52 on August 22, 2013, 09:19:04 PM
Well it's 46 days until my tyres on the Patrol hit the Campground at The Mountain. Being a massive Touring Car/V8 Fan my whole life and an avid camper, all the years of Camping and setting up I have now realised, have prepared me for this occasion. Myself and my good mate are camping in the Chase Campground.

Being Bathurst first timers, we can't wait. We're like kids at Christmas. The Bride even gave me permission to spend the $$'s get the Camper pretty self sufficient now with Solar Panels and 12v set up for lighting, radio and fridge. Even have the firewood sorted.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips and tricks that might be useful.

I used to be very passionate about the V8's, but reckon the category has become pretty irrelevant......

D4D - Cheers Mate. To be honest I didn't look very hard for an existing thread. I did find last years though and was wondering if you're "home" for this year. Last year's set up looked great for Hotel room. Attached is mine last year. Around the corner is a spit.

Black Diamond - Nah Mate. Coopers. Being an ever loving proud Coopers drinkers since I was "before old enough", the Camper will be packed with Coopers.

GeoffA - It's flowed with the times. But the Old Days are still the best.

Might pay to check the regs regarding taking Grog into the campground. Heard somewhere that there may be a limit on what you can take in nowadays. Was a regular visitor 81 till 87 ,and had a ball.Everyone that likes the V8's should go at least once just to hear the sound of a pack of em coming up the mountain. Am sure you will have a great time.

Have a brother in law who lives on the mountain, and yep, there are serious restrictions regarding grog. Not sure but I think it is a carton [slab] per person per day.

yep that's it, if you can drink a slab a day and back it up over a week youre doing well ;D

Yep Hems right one slab per day and they check car and camper going in, sometimes not very well. Not far into town to buy more, just make sure you have a sober driver they have booze buses on the way out of the track
My tip, take  ear plugs, not for the cars, so you can sleep at nite. We go to the XXXX stand Saturday arvo, not for that stuff just to have a good time. Jim Beam is about $10 a can on track and you cant take booze to the track anymore
Might see you up there, youll have a ball

Yeah carton each per day is what I've read. No glass. But we're not there to do drink ourselves stupid everyday.

As for the earplugs, I'm half deaf so I just sleep with the deaf ear up. Works a treat. The wife doesn't think so though.

My helpfull hint is take lots of warm clothes like a water proof jacket, beani and thermal underwear, plus shorts, thongs, sun hat and sunnies as you could need any of these on any particular day and maybe all of them on the same day.  The weather can vary greatly from the top of the mountain to the bottom.

anyway enjoy the day it's something worth seeing

About the "one carton per person per day" rule, I'm assuming you can take in what you need for the week your camping? ie I'm there for 6 days so I can take 3 cartons in with me?

Cheers all

You be thinking wrong!
My first year we took in eight cartons - 2 people by four days.
We were only allowed two cartons - then you need to go to town and purchase another two for the next day.
We talked our way around it.
No we stash the extras so they are not( hopefully ) found.

Time to be creative with packing the Camper.

If your camping uptop and get on the monday/tuesday they don't check, you could do what my mate does and hide it behind door trims/ dash plastic mouldings in cargo area, re bottle vodka into water bottles, the possibilities are endless and kinda fun

In the Chase and getting there on the Tuesday.

I'm already putting the Bourbon in the 2 litre Apple Juice bottles. Just take the lid off with the ring still on it.

Where can you hide 3 cartons in a Patrol?

Your staying down the bottom of the mountain so its only a stones throw into town, and the price of booze isnt that different to home, its always good to go and have a look around town always plenty on. Couple years ago a lot of guys were surrendering their booze at the gate, it got locked it up in a 20 foot container then they would go down each dqy and collect another slab but pretty sure they have cracked down on that practice now. If your not big drinkers i would not worry about it so long as one of you can drive, cause you will be tested, then its no big deal. We dont even take food up any more, just go into town and buy it on the Wednesday or Thursday arvo that way we put a bit of money into the town

If your going up Tuesday, go into town Wednesday when they have the transport parade, get a free feed at the BBQ and get another couple slabs on the way back to camp
Another hint if your going up the top of the mountain for a look, go on Thursday from then on the ques get long for the buses

ashby,
dont know about the top of the mountain havent been up there in a while, but its been that way down the bottom for a few years now, its all fenced and you get checked at the gates

As long as I can get my Coopers, I'll be a happy man. Having to drive in and out is something we want to avoid, but I forgot about the Parade. Cheers for the tips Macca

Thursday is a definite trip to the top.

All Good. Dr Tims, Clear or Lager. Same as what they sell on track. Not as good out of the bottle, but still good none the less.

Less than 3 weeks till we arrive. The "Myswag" sticker is on rear window of the Patrol. I'm Camping in the Chase just up from the showers and dunny's. Pop by for a beer and a chat.

I'm 36 and having sleepless nights already I'm that excited...............terrible but I love it.

I'm tipping DJR for a top 5......with an announcement to go to Merc next year as the fourth car.

If I get up there early I stay at Lake Carcoar, just out of Blayney, really good free camp about 30 or 40 km into Bathurst
