Hi
Aldi have some 4wd specials this Sat.
https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/saturday-24-august-2013/ (https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/saturday-24-august-2013/)
I'm interested in the 150L air compressor and possibly the recovery tracks (maxtrax clones).
What do others think of these items and their value? Just curious.
Goose.

Will let you know when I check them out, some stuff they have is "what you pay for products" but I must admit if you don't expect them to be "what a contractor would use" you can get by quite easily.
Any thing that needs to be a bit heavy duty and it doesn't look it, don't get even though there seems to be a good warranty... personal choice in the end.
-
Can't remember seeing these 2 products at Aldi before, I may be wrong.
Their gear is generally good. I have the puncture repair kit, same quality as other kits for about half price. We have a kitchen full of their "stuff".
One of the props with living in tassie now, no Aldi. I'd be giving the compressor a go if I had ready access to a store.

the floor mats for $20 look ok........might get me some of those 8)
-
Be careful with the Auto Worklight. Bought one from Aldi about 2 years back and on our first trip I had it plugged in charging on the back seat while travelling and the next minute we smelt a rubber burning smell and picked up the light and it was extremely hot and then it started smoking. We had to quickly throw it out the window. Yes, we picked it up once it had cooled down and put it in the first bin. Luckily I had not had it plugged in somewhere where we would not have noticed the smell.
It may have not been the exact same type as advertised, but it looks similar and was the same price. That was on the start of our 3 month trip. so I did not get a chance to complain to Aldi, quess I should have. :-[ Kevin

I am no expert but I think the first good wheelspin on the recovery tracks would render them almost useless. BCF had 800mm Treds on sale last weekend for $150

We've had a set for over 3 years now. Grip well to the carpet and nice and deep to catch all of the kids spills! The rear ones can hold the contents of a can of coke without a spill...

For $129, do I get one of these for the Prado and paint it black...

Why not? A bit of etch prime and some satin black and you would probably have spent more on paint.
But have a look at it and see what you think, I doubt you could go too wrong for $129.............
Cheers

I have the the air compressor it is great bit of kit if you look at dr air it is the same pump for a third of the price
-
yup, i think i may be getting the mat's, maybe the ute cargo barrier and seat covers too
the track's @ $129 seem rather toy like compared to the Mallee tracks i got from BigJules and i just bought a 600W pure sine wave invertor last week

Or strip it and drop it off at a powder coater. Satin black is massively common, so you shouldn't get charged much.

Fathers day came early today, bought meself one o dem fancy air pumper uppers.
Can't open it till fathers day though to see if I got ripped off or not
-
grabbed some of those floor mats.........perfect for the Patrol :cup:

Some of the gear is OK and I have some items but for me I would not want to be on the side of the Oodnadatta Track with a roof basket in half a dozen pieces because it wasn't up to the task. If a compressor fails you borrow someone else's but a roof basket and all the items you have stored there generally because they won't fit anywhere else.......

100% agree, that is why I didn't buy it :)

Purchased one of the Ratchet Cargo Bars $20 for the back of the truck to hold the fuel cell back against the rear wall.Well made and works like a charm.

I really do not know how well they will perform, however each track weighs 4Kg vs 3.6Kg for Maxtrax. If relative weight is an important indicator of durability they appear OK. Lighweight cr#p they do not appear to be.

yes, but they are HUGE!!!! although, they look like they would actually work well with using as a shovel in sand etc.....
I did however pick up one of the led worklights. Now in the shed and works great. I really like the blackout funtion. EG: if its on charge and you have a power outage, after 5 seconds or so it automatically turns on. kinda cool really.

One of my mates went to his local Aldi store 1 hour before opening time Saturday morning. When he arrived he was the 30th person in the line, so by the time he got to the section with 4WD specials, most of the stuff was already in other people’s trollies.
Right or wrong about quality, Aldi do very well at marketing specials.
-
Yeah I happened to be dropping number 2 at cadets one morning and went to the aldi at opening at 8.30 (wanted a angle grinder) by 8.35 people were complaining because the mowers were all gone! One pallet of there special sale item and its gone in 5min WTF, doesn't sound ethical to me.

Agree, the worklight is a ripper. We us it camping, throws plenty of light and recharges off the 12v overnight !

Anyone wanting a roof basket, there are heaps at the Chatswood store. Steel jerry cans and floor mats as well.
-
I picked up the 150l compressor for $99. Haven't opened it yet but the TJM one was half the volume and more than double the price. Guy standing in line said he bought it last time it was on special and reckons it is great. Hope so :D

Went in to get compressor and last one was being scanned at registers :(

Got both and the Aldi is heaps better. Compared the Aldi one to the show $250 and there are the same, same factory, different paint job :)

Perfectly ethical - everyone who shops at Aldi knows their specials policy and it's written on all the junk mail catalogues. We got the last two red bar stools at our local Aldi on Saturday - plenty of black and white ones left.

WHAT THE....
No air guitars..... fffffttttt.

you didnt look hard enough.... there there... look again.! :-*

i bought the mats and the seat covers
mats are mats and they do the job, seat covers have more pockets than my cargo pants but are a bit too small for my Colorado seats
also got the cargo barrier, now that is a great bit of kit

My son grabbed the seatcovers for His GQ and they're a great fit. You'll be able to sell them on the Patrol forum:-)

I got the compressor, I was going to buy the DR AIR off Ebay for $184, the ALDI one looks the same and when I powered it up I was impressed by the amount of air it moves.
The big difference is that the DR Air has a 5 year warranty where the ALDI has only one. It is the same with all the others (Tigerz11 etc) that appear to be the same as the DR AIR.
-
Got the mats and electric jack.
-
If you are in the market for a set of tracks, why not buy them of Bigjules and support a fellow myswagger (who puts a lot of time and effort into this forum) rather than buying crap from a German multinational company.
-
Aldi at Emu plains had some compressors, jerries, tracks and other bits left as of today
-
Did anyone end up getting the roof rack? What is it like?
Still a few at our local so will probably drop a bit in price soon.

Anyone ever tried one of these? Curious to know if they would be worth a look?

I wonder how loud they are ???

WHAT DID YOU SAY?
-
Some reading on them.

70db flat out apparently, but they do have an eco mode which is quieter.
-
I wonder how loud they are ???
found some info saying 70dBA and others saying higher........ think I will give it a miss
-
What sort of 'dba' should you look at?
How loud is 70?
-

How loud is 70?
65DBA is maximum allowed at an out door concert.
70 is approx standing next to a revving mower.
75 is approx the level of pain / permanent damage.
NOTE: As dba is a logorithimic measurement, not linear, every 10DBA is a doubling of the 'noise' level.
THerefore, 70dba is approx 50% more than 65 dba.
-
What about the solar panels.... Cheap, but what are they like....
-
$250 for 120W... there are 120W kits on eBay much cheaper than that, though perhaps not the same quality as here?

Sorry, not right.
-
Sorry, not right.
One of the thigsI love about noise measurement is the system used to measure it.
Measurement of outdoor noise in Vic is an average over 15 minutes. This is known as "leq"
65 dba leq is significantly higher than that indicated in the table. The other figures were from memory and I wouldn't swear to them, although a 15 minute average is obviously going to have more impact than an instantaneous level.
-
Over 85dbA average for an 8 hour day is the trigger point industry standard for workplace audio metric testing. A weighted scale reduces the time exposure allowed if higher levels are present. I you are, for example, exposed to jet air craft noise levels of 120dbA for 10 minutes you would be in trouble.
We have lecture rooms at work where the background noise level is 70dbA because of loud air conditioners, they are fitted with sound systems to allow lecturers to be heard. It's recognised that the spoken voice needs to be 15dbA above background level for the hearer to be able to process information, so the sound systems are set at just over 80dbA at 3m.
Euro4 standard is for equipment to produce less than 65dbA at approx 3 metres. You can talk to the person next to you and be heard without raising your voice at this level. 70dbA is still relatively quiet, but flaming annoying at 10pm at night!
