Hi all, my Wife and I are flying to Melbourne from Hobart next Thursday to basically buy a 2010 Defender 110, we have only seen pictures and spoken at length with the owner, who works at TJM in Coburg ( we have the Ferry booked for Saturday 24/8 to get us and the car home). The Defender has 36-37,000 kms on it and a fair bit of TJM gear, including front and rear Pro lockers. We have had ARB air lockers previously in our HDJ78 Troopy and got plenty of grief from the rear Locker O ring passing Diff oil back to the compressor :'(
Any hints or tips on what to check out, inspect, etc with the Defender in general, or these TJM Pro lockers? Any help would be appreciated before we hand over the Lolly. Cheers, Kanga1.

Thanks, I have put the same post on AULRO also, we have never spent this much cash on a car before, so I really want know if there are any common faults to look out for. Cheers, Kanga1

I hope so Geetee, it does have a fair bit of kit fitted ;D. Pretty much all we need except for the James Baroud roof tent that we'll be needing for our trip next year. Cheers, Kanga1

It's not a white dual cab ex-vic goverment unit is it? I have lots of experience with one.

Isn't the 110 a wagon?

The car is a grey wagon 110 wheelbase, I have been thinking about a Defender wagon for over a year now and the time is right at the moment for a couple of shakedown trips before we go on a decent trip July to October next year to see all the State Corners and 6 or so of the Deserts. Cheers, Kanga1.
Thanks Geetee to hopefully it will all work out OK, (already paid for the Airline tickets and Ferry!)
Andrew C. I actually rang the selling that car to find out more about it, Particularly why it had a rebuilt/new motor fitted with so few kms ??? apparently it was down on power and had been back a few times because of it, changing parts out until the dealer sprang for $$$$ worth of parts and the owner paid for labour. Maybe it was a Friday afternoon car? I have been following Nugget's story with his dual cab ( nice job he is doing too, great workshop) but I think if I was going to go the dual cab it would be the 130 for extended remote travel. Cheers, Kanga1.

The one I had was similar to that, it was the greatest machine offroad, would go anywhere it was pointed, unfortunately the trade off was the crazy driveline and wind noise.
I grew in to it but could not get over the dust and leaks in the cab.i bought my wife a prado for the same coin and they are very different machines.
Given this car did more offroad and dirt road work in 60000 than most would do in a lifetime.
If you are doing a long trip, to save requiring a shower each time you stop, find some dusty roads and give it a workout( hard this time of year for us southerners)
If it is your own car and your committing to it for a while, the issues i had are mostly easy to resolve with some silicon and stick on foam. I never got around to sorting the issues, I was offered a v8 landcruiser ute and have never looked back.

Thanks for you info Andrew, our newest Land Rover up to now was a 1978 Series 3 ex Army 109 inch, had to get out of them, the leaf springs were killing my back. You never get them completely out of you blood though, like some infections! Cheers, Kanga1.

Thats a sweet looking 110!
Best of luck with it. Keep in mind its a Land Rover which is like being married to a hooker - Good times, but expect her to be unfaithful to you sometimes
