Just hopping to tap into the wealth of knowledge on here and see if anyone can recommend some spots or caravan parks within a couple hours south of the Gold Coast. We love taking our two dogs away so anything dog friendly would be a bonus and places on the beach or the bank of a river are what we tend to enjoy the most.
We are fairly self sufficient for a quick weekend away and are looking to add a few options for weekend trips.
Thanks in advance

It's a bit more than two hours drive, but on the advice of member here we stopped into South West Rocks on our last trip and have to say that it was great we stayed at the Top Tourist Park on the edge of town (dog freindly) really good site with nice staff and the weather was great although a bit cold at night when we were there.....
The town itself was really laid back with plenty of beaches and places to see, although I thought Trial Bay Gaol was a bit exxy to get into.
Someone said they could easily see themselves retiring there and I could see why, saying that, I would go sooner rather than later because when the new sections of the Pacific Coast Highway reach the area I suspect it will turn into the new Byron Bay......

I have always wanted to visit South West Rocks. Don't think we'll get there on a weekend end away but definitely when we road trip that way one day.

Never been there, but dogs are allowed and easy weekend from GC.
We will try it out one the weather gets a bit better. We are also dog people and take ours on every trip we do.

Hey ollie, stayed there 18 years ago. Great spot right opposite the beach but very old and tired. Been past heaps of times since and still looks unchanged. Did I say great location?

NP so no dogs but a great spot on the beach. Need to book a year in advance for school holiday periods.
Dog friendly CP called Clarence River CP at Iluka. Always clean when we stayed there last year but lots of permanents.
Mt Warning Rainforest Park has a dog friendly section. Nice spot. Can have fires.

Hey kb, yeah it seams like a great spot. As far as been run down, sometime that doesn't worry us as we just treat it as bush camping and set up our own amenities.

We stayed at fingal last year and we went for a drive to have a look at wooyung beach as we also have dogs. It had rained a fair bit so the grounds were muddy. Great location, very old and tired amenities, but it was tidy. The lady let us have a walk around the place to get a feel for it... Haven't been back yet, but would consider it.

Try getting yourself a copy of this

It says the book is for 4wd, but most places can be enjoyed with out a 4wd.
There are places inland to, which are still in QLD, Darlington Park, Stinson Park are 2 which are dog friendly and nice to go to for weekends.

Brooms head, pebbly beach or sandon river. Bit of a hike but its like you took a trip back to 1979.

Thanks for all the replies. We love the Mt Warning park and it will most likely be our shake down trip for the new Jayco.
Had heard about the ballina park and will be booking the Gold Coast show long weekend down there. Just sucks that you can't take the dogs on the beach but apparently there's and dog friendly beach 10mins away and heaps of walking trails around the park.

I think Mt Warning is closed due to the rain damage, or, it could just be the walking trails. Can't remember exactly to be honest.

Yes the trail is closed due to wild weather we had at the start of the year but there is a privately owned caravan and camping park at the base of the mountain. Great place to stay for a weekend, open fires, nice bush setting, nice amenities, dog friendly section and a lovely little creek to explore

We liked the Pottsville south caravan park (i think south not north) on the river. Not sure about dogs tho.

Pebbly Beach and Sandon River are both in NSW National Parks, so no woof woof allowed.
