Title: Motorized Jocky wheels
Post by: scott oz on July 03, 2013, 07:13:41 AM
I've searched the forum and couldn't see motorized jocky wheels have been discussed.

Am considering these

There is a slightly more expensive one with a pneumatic tyre which is the way I'm leaning.

Looked at the ratchets and would rather have the advantage of the motor breaking. Looked at the duel wheel mule from another post and at $600? no way!!!!

Any how would appreciate members  thoughts. Is only moving a Swan.

Hi Scott, personally I would not go with the pneumatic jockey wheels as they have a tendancy to go flat - most manufacturers use the solid rubber versions.

I'm looking at them as we'll for a possible camper upgrade. We have a ratchet version that I bought because it was on special. Awkward and the pneumatic tyre would either slip or when it gripped would spin on the rim and rip the valve off. This is on a sub 1 tonne camper.

There's a guy in the US who sells plans on eBay to make one. Parts would probably come to $500 unless you had them lying around.

Search for Jockey not jokey and you will get better results.

Lost thanks.

OK read the thread and this motorized one at $290+ P&H (one on ebay went for) to $389 + P&H buy now.

So has anyone used one of these or know somewhere in Sydney you can get them?

Lost,

I reviewed your unit for my circumstance but decided I want one which would “replace” the standard jockey wheel. In doing a bit of looking around there are a number of units (expensive) which work on the wheels of caravans etc. using a remote?  Starting price seems to be around $1,100 for a single drive unit on a small van.

I have a need to maneuver the Swan out of curbside parking spots (parked in) , so i need to pull the front out and hitch to the tug. Also like 99.99% of wives mine has difficulty in providing backing instructions.

This aside at say “$350” these motorized jockey wheels seem to be the cheapest unit around.

Anyone got one  ??? or givne one a test ???

Hi Scott,
I have the Mini Mover with the solid rubber wheel which I got through Waverley Mowers online store in Victoria. I have a Jayco Hawk, pretty much the same as your Swan and it moves it around no problems at all, even across the grass between the garage and fence. Not so good now the ground is soft from the recent rain. I've got the usual lip from the grass up into the garage which it cant do without some help from the winch I have mounted in the back of the garage. I bought a ride on mower battery from Supercheap when they were on sale and it sits in the jerry can holder when moving the van. I think from memory I paid $350 plus freight but haven't looked back since.

There is a rural agent in Victoria selling the mini mover. $250- delivered to WA. Looks solid/well built but haven't installed it yet.

Oh, how much I don't know.  I was expecting to see a picture of a jockey wearing wheels of some kind to make his horse run faster.  I really have to get stockman's thoughts out of my head.

Finally installed the mini mover. Easy. Seems well made. Saves a lot of pushing. A great buy I think. Used An ARK FCL8 bolt on bracket with 100 x 50 U bolts. Made up a short lead to connect the front Anderson plug to the Mini Movers Anderson power poles. So using the CT battery.
