Why do motorist travelling at 80ks per hour speed up to 110ks per hour in a passing lane? ??? ???
-
Same as people that turn right from the left hand lane on a roundabout ???????
-
This only ever seems to happen in NSW from my experiences too.
Sent from Behind you...BOO
-
It happened to me 3 times coming back from Townsville today. >:(

Come down the Gold Coast for a day and drive around. Nutcases on the rd here
-
Plenty in Cairns too.
-
yes that is an absolute effing mystery. But a very frustrating one...especially when towing and you wish/need to keep momentum up
-
I guess that is better than fools who overtake road trains on the Tanami, going through the dust without knowing what is on the other sid, and yes, it does happen....and some have crashed.
Tjupurula
-
Do you geta " Darwin Award " passing a road train in blind dust if it all goes Pair Shaped ???
You would have to be on the quick road to heaven ??? >:D
-
Because everyone is trying to pass that car in front
-
Because everyone is trying to pass that car in front
Mate, the one in front was the car that was doing 80ks until the passing lane, then sped up to 110ks in every passing lane. They would then drop back when out of it. ???
-
Its done by people who have an over inflated opinion of their own self importance. They are afraid if they let anyone in front of them, they will get to their destination before them. They don't care what your destination is, just that its more important that they get to theirs first.
-

You are so right about it happening in NSW, but by Queenslanders. ;D ;D ;D
I just believe, people do not care about the people driving behind them. Too caught up in the radio or conversation.
It is not hard to keep to the speed limit, or keep left or turn a corner from the correct side of the lane.
-
all the time this happens ..
But the one that gets me is the drive along at a reasonably rate then come around a bend and get a look at the ocean and just stop , then crawl along at 20km/ph
Or come to a right turn off and pull up in the left lane to check the map , hang on I'm going straight through here , look out ....
Do these same people drive like this when at home in there city ???? I don't think so .. they just didn't pack there brain when they left home ...
cheers
-
its like the morons who have been following you for miles and then speed up to overtake then straight away turn off in front of you >:( . oh dont worry, me in the b-double weighing 64 tonnes will pull up quick for your a$$.
thats where they get a healthy dose of air horns to wake them up.

I recon that's the same prawn that's allways in front of me when I go to Adelaide
He gets around!
-
The simple answer is that you are driving on a single lane road, often with crests and open bends. The driver is driving to their ability or confidence levels, often at around 85-90k's.
The passing lanes are generally on straighter roads, obviously the lanes are wider and the drivers confidence level increases and unconsciously increases the speed.
This is rarely done with malice, you need to be a little patient, take a big breath an get over it. Being aggressive and tailgating will reduce their confidence resulting in them slowing down...
If you're stuck behind someone, remember you don't own the road, open the window a little, it'll give you the illusion of driving faster. Be patient on the roads, the journey will be safer and a little more relaxing.
:-)
-
Neither does he own the road, if he knew what was going on around him he would hold back a little on the passing lane and let you thru . Same as I do when semis want to pass , I go out of my way to let them get on with their job. Just because he doesn't have confidence to drive doesn't mean he has the right to slow everybody else up :)):-[

Driver behavior is one of the biggest bug bears of swaggers and rightly so.
I've had my fair share of rants about the poor level of driver skills that are out there ;D
What these drivers fail to realize is that they are using the road with others and are totally oblivious to the frustration that they are the cause of. A lot of this is due to their lack of ability to share the road, this is evident by the fact that many do not use their mirrors.
dungee, your comment

This is no excuse for speeding well past the posted speed limit, which many of them do.
you don't own the road
And neither do they.

What about being conscience of others around you?
Hey, I'm not having a go at you, I get these kinda comments thrown at me a lot, you just happen to be the last poster.
As our population grows and our roads become more congested and we will encounter this kinda of driving more & more.
It takes great strength(Just ask Fysh ;D ) at times to stay relaxed, claim whilst traveling these days, this includes a quick run into town for supplies or taking the kids to sport not just on the highway.
I still don't understand why there aren't the unmarked H/way patrols that we use to have prowling the roads.
Now their stand out like a pimple on a whores nose(brightly coloured Candy Cars), we have signs everywhere telling us there are speed cameras ahead or mobile speed cameras are used in this area. Why ???
-
Spend a week in the B-double with me and you will get the true definition of frustration, with these a-wipes! >:D
As I say to people, I don't catch you if, your traveling quicker than me, so just let me go and yest my truck is speed limited to 100kmh. >:(

they generally drive small silver cars - normally with toyota badges
well they do on Old Windsor Road during peak hour at least
-
I think its a power struggle.
Seriously.
They have Shitty lives or problems at work or a missus giving them hell, so when they are in front of you they feel all powerful.
Its kind of a I'm in control of you and there's nothing you can do about it type feeling......
Sad, but I think its true.
Some other observations I have noticed are the same mopheads then tailgate you when you do finally get to overtake.
They also abuse you if you do overtake, or speed to get past.
Certainly not condoning speeding, but sometimes you have to push that little bit to get around some idiot.
Also absolutely unconditionally every single time - As soon as the overtaking lane ends they hit the anchors and slow down again.
Last observation - Roads and Maritime won't let you install guided missiles on your roof racks. Contravenes some sort of ADR and possibly NATO as well. >:( >:( >:(
Spoil sports.
Cheers

I think a few of you missed my point, that is; most of the people doing this do it subconsciously. I doubt many do it to piss us off. I've experienced this also, 85k on the narrow road and 105k on the overtaking lane, I often do the trip from Brisbane to Gosford, both the inland and coast route.
Getting aggressive at these people on the roads doesn't help especially since they usually don't realise they are doing it.
I've spent too much of my life on the road behind the wheel, on motorcycles and on bicycles, I'll repeat what I said earlier, a bit of patience and you'll arrive cooler, happier, alive and only a few minutes later.
-
Dungee is right. They don't do it to piss you off... They do it because they are totally oblivious to the needs of a anyone around them.
So don't get worked up, as you'll only be putting yourself into an early grave. They probably won't even notice your finger as you pass them.
Be happy in the fact that you know for sure that they are indeed an idiot. ;D

Do you really think so??????? I watch the mirrors of them and you can see them look at you and then the foot goes down! >:( Just the same as the fools that race up along side of you and want too get across to the left hand lane to exit. ???
Foo
-
I'd go both ways. (In this discussion - No replies please Lost!!!)
I've seen many ignorant fools oblivious to the fact that they put their foot down on the open 2 lanes for overtaking, then as it narrows to single lane, think to themselves, oh dear narrow road better slow down a bit....
Then I've had the other fools who look at you in the rear mirror, tap the brakes, give the finger, all while driving at 20 KPH under the limit on single lane, then as you say, plant the foot at the overtaking.
Hence my desire for guided missiles :police: :police: :police:
Oh by the way Fuji, my name is Frank and I live in Brisbane...... :police:
I tend not to get road rage these days, but still ponder the foolishness of these ignoramus's
I eventually calmly overtaking (yes occasionally a k or 2 over the limit for a split second) when safe and leave them to their merry lives.
I did have one fool bail me up in Mc'D's because I overtook him where he deemed unsafe.
I asked him why he thought it a good idea to drive 15 kph under the limit with a stream of cars over 2kms long without considering moving over.
Oh- I didn't see them, he replied.
When I started to educate him on the fact that those mirrors aren't just for putting his lipstick on he got quite cranky.
Oh well, so I upset him. I've done worse. He was driving a camry, so I reckon he's got bigger problems anyway.....
-
Dungee not having a go at you, I see your point, but why don't they just get out of the way and let people go about their business and if they don't realise then they shouldn't be on the road. If I get rounded up by a semi I get on the radio and let him know I will get out of his way as soon as I can, to me its just being aware of what's going on around you . I reckon its better to get a wave of thanks than getting the bird
-
They usually have a hat on that hides the mirrors from view.
A little off topic but the same type of driver - had an idiot clip my arm with his mirror while cycling last month, road was really wide + two lanes, I was on the shoulder and pedalling along at 55k's in a 60 zone (downslope). I got a head of steam on and caught him at the next lights, tapped on his window to say "hello". He looked up from under his hat, was about 85 years old, had no clue he'd clipped me. No use going off at him, he just shouldn't have been driving, probably one of those with no awareness...
-
if they don't realise then they shouldn't be on the road.
Thank You macca for your sensible comment.
You can't just operate the machinery. You must be aware of what's around you.
My pet hate ... those that couldn't afford the indicator option.
Kit_e
-
Kit_e, you must have seen my father in law driving, I've never ever seen him indicate!

Plenty of the locals here ticked the radio option in preference to indicators too. I guess they figure that if the radios loud enough they won't hear the abuse
Sent from the machine that goes..... Bing!
-
Blimey I am so glad I do nt drive around towns and cities. I don't indicate, but then out here the cattle, camels and horses don't really care which way I am turning. I have never driven in a town, I let the kids do that for me, they get too upset when I leave the car open with the keys in it. It never got pinched though, Blue Heeler security sitting on the drivers seat when I wasn't there.

A few years back I was working at a mine about 90klms out of Charters Towers, we were bussed in and out daily. One day, we jumped on the bus to see a new driver, this bloke was something special, he would drive steady enough, and all that was ok, but would go into a full spin out if someone over took him, it was like a flicked switch in his head, he would swear and wave his fist, his face would go red, and it wasn't for show, it was a full frikken melt down and of course while he was doing this his driving and control of the bus became a 2nd or 3rd priority to him as he focussed all his pent up rage on whoever just happened to overtake us........ needless to say, he didn't drive our bus for too many shifts after a few of us had witnessed the spin out.......... does really make you wonder, how lucky you are to survive any drive with nutters like this on the road....

I just had to bring this thread back after what just happened to me this morning. ???
I was heading out on a job this morning and approx 8ks south of Tully I come up behind a Red Navara towing a Jayco Freedom Caravan doing about 75ks per hr.
There's nothing coming the other way so I indicate and pass him and as I pull back in I look back and he's wound his window down and giving me the finger ???
A few ks up the road is a new passing lane and over to the left lane I go only to be passed by this idiot I'd just passed blowing his horn, giving me the finger and his caravan swerving side to side. I'm doing 100ks and he must have been doing 120ks?
Then for some unknown reason when the passing lane ended he went back to 75ks ???.
O well >:(

Jayco Rage they call it!!
-
On social media I suggested that people should have to re-sit a driving test a X amount of years to prove they still have the competence to drive. I still stand by that view. The most common comment I get was "I'd fail if I had to do it again" and if that is the case, then surely you shouldn't be driving on the road? My father has 50 years driving experience but couldn't drive a greased stick up a .... (can't remember how the rest goes), but he still has a license. Surely if you can no longer drive in a manor that is safe for all other road users and the general public then you shouldn't be driving....? How many elderly drivers driving into shops/houses does it take before something is done?
And just before I finish my rant, there is not enough :police: on the road.
This is my view and not the view of my family, friends, enemies, or employer (actually it is the view of my employer you have to pass a driving test before we will employ you as a driver....).

Driving home tonight I come up on a Toyota Prius (mmmm now there's the problem right there...) just has her parkers on down the highway.
Pulls off on my exit so at the next set of lights I pull up beside her, beep the horn, wind the window down and try to sign language (not with fingers only lads) that she needs to put her lights on. She looks at me with that mullet look of ""whhhhhaaaaaaatttttt" with her head tilted a little one way.
Doesn't bother to put the window down a little to hear me saying - "hey you need to put your lights on!"
Again I was trying not to frighten the poor thing but she got the idea I was talking about her lights. She gives me the thumbs up and as we drive away she turns her lights completely OFF !!!
WHAT THE!! Ok - I've tried to do my good deed of the day and this is what happens. Didn't even faze her turning off the main road into a dark side street and lights still did not come on as I am left to wonder about as you say "One of Life's true mysteries??"

If she turned all her lights on, her Prius would loose another 10km/h off its top speed!

Good point - And - If she turns the lights on the battery would go flat - and then she wouldn't make it home... Ohhh I get it now... and I thought she was the nuffty... so that's why she turned them OFF...

As a graveyard shift driver most mornings I see at least 1 vehicle with parkers on only! Can't believe it!
Also badly adjusted HID's ! Now there's a rant !

I just got back from Mission Beach. 28 k trip.
I pulled out of Council Caravan Park behind 3 caravans that were only about 2 metres apart from each other. ???. So off they went in a 50kph area and sat on 30 kph.
In the 60kph area they sat on 40 ??? then in the 80kph they sat on 60kph ???
Ok if they want to do that speed why don't they spread out a bit and pull over and let people who have to work, pass >:(
The other thing is every tine they see a dark patch, an old tree stump or anything move over on the side of the road, they slam the brakes on because ie might be a bloody Cassowary. >:(
You just gotta love them ;D ;D
-
My single greatest annoyance is those idiots who will come up behind you while you are gradually overtaking traffic, so you move over to let them pass, then they just sit in your blind spot.
Not too bad unless you are bearing down on a car in front, the reason you were in the right lane in the first place.
You put your indicators on and the fool behind goes into tanty mode.
Horn, lights flashing and quite animated arm waving.................and you have not even moved, just put the blinker on.
You have to slow to prevent running up the rear of the car in front, and old idiot face also slows down, still preventing one from going around the guy in front.
Eventually the potato gets bored, or his three second memory span has finished and he overtakes, finally allowing you to go around the car in front.
These morons really need some politeness edumacations,
Look ahead, think of the poor bugger who may get stuck or worse, caught with cars merging from the on ramp.
This goes double for trucks, they have twice as much to move and its harder for these poor buggars to get back up to speed.
Those who make the rules in Australia could do worse than look at road rules in China.
The one that hits someone else, regardless of what the driver was doing (and I mean anything) pays for the prang.
Makes them think hard about ramming someone who may have made an error or who is "in the wrong"
