Title: Help with spare tyre garbage bag..which one ?
Post by: hargs on May 30, 2013, 07:34:21 AM
We have 2 very yellow old plastic jerry cans converted to garbage holders that we use on short trips away..one for garbage and one recycling..., but for our longer 5 week trip want to buy the spare tyer type one...which one have you got and does it stand up in use.

Thanks in advance.

Hi.
We have a BCF one. It is ok, only downside I find is it like to slide down when it has a lot of stuff in it.

Bushranger. I have had mine for 4 years and it's still working well holding up to the conditions it lives on the bag door. Never a problem with the zip or straps.

Thats what we use and can't fault it for the price. Last big trip was 6 weeks out in central oz and it spent every second on the back and is still going strong

I wondering about getting one of those today.  Do they travel securely on the back?

Yep, no problems.  There is a strap which secures it and pulls up tight.  I use it on the spare wheel of the CT.

I'm going to say "yes and no".

Mine is now attached to the camper spare tyre, and is not going anywhere.

When I first put it on, I had hooked it up and adjusted it tight, but it nearly fell off on the way home from a trip. My theory is that the weight of the rubbish in it had worked the straps ever looser, until it way about to end up on the road. Another kilometre or two would have seen me scratching my head when we arrived home, wondering where my rubbish was.

Long story short - don't trust the buckles and tightening like they from from factory - tie it on nice and strong and tight and you'll be fine.

Ours lives on the back of the camper too, and it's in a perfect spot right next to the kitchen. I don't doubt the big name canvas ones are better quality, but I figure for something that's going to get rubbish juice leaked all over it, cheaper is better. I don't know how long the little zips that hold the base on will last, but I figure we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. My plan is just to sew the base up if it does let go.

Good luck!
Matto :)

I bought one today and returned it 5 min later.
The box said it will fit a 33" tyre....... nope the straps too short.
Lol I wars a bit frustrated too because the new black ridge Ryder ones are better made than the old grey ones....
Oh well off to bcf tomorrow.

Cheers

I have the bcf bag, used a cable tie to keep the two zips on the bottom closed. Fitted to my 33 inch spare and had no problems crossing the Simpson Desert.

Our black ridge Ryder one fits on our 33" spare. It is a tight fit though

I've got a black ridge Ryder. Fitted my 285/75x16 duratrac fine...no room to spare but it did fit. Carried all our rubbish for a 5 week cape trip. Only damage was some tearing of the stitching around a strap when I over tightend it on one occasion. Still working just fine, about to go into permanent use on the spare again.
