Have just come across this truetrac product online does not look to bad for my hilux
Any thoughts.....don't have $ for diff lockers so would this be a good alternative

They're a great unit, although I have never fitted one to be used off road, only in muscle cars. They're quiet, smooth and strong.

If it is a Gleason/Torsen or Quaife-style worm-gear unit it is a brilliant progressive traction-enhancement device for on-road (I have one in a comp car). It doesn't suddenly 'lock' so doesn't 'bite yo' ass' so doesn't adversely affect setting up a car's chassis/handling. But it's not as good off-road as it doesn't prevent free-wheel spin with a wheel in the air. It must have some traction to provide preload for its operation and a wheel in the air can't do that!
so keep saving for those Lockers

Which can be supplied with a touch on the brakes, although that seems counter productive to me. A cheap alternative is to import some detroit lockers.

I just fitted one in the rear of my 150 hilux last week,along with a Elocker in the front,well worth the money over the factory LSD,however they dont completely lock up and you need to have the diff (both wheels) loaded up slightly(if one wheel is off the ground that is) for it to engage in the bush,so a touch of handbrake gets it working good.

On the road you dont notice it at all really,which is what i was after,I didnt want an open diff in the rear with a locker in the wet they can be a pain in the ar#se in slippery conditions.

That's a technique that can be used with an open diff as well
