Title: Am I having a blonde moment or is there a trick to this....
Post by: Socks on May 12, 2013, 10:24:05 PM
We've just bought Denali brand self inflating mattresses. I've rolled them up and put it back in its bag. Thing us the bag doesn't seem to close properly. See pics attached. Am i missing something? Is there a trick to closing the bag?

Looks like a wet bag that we use on the boat. Try folding the open end over 2 or 3 times and then clip it up.

Good luck! :D

Yep that's the way to do it. Join the ends together then fold over twice. I have the same for my hiking tent.

It might pay you to open the valve once it's in the bag. I have self inflating ones and it is recommended they be inflated when stored in the bag.

GraemeL - there's a valve in the bag too so that makes sense.

Thanks all :)

yup as said looks like a dry bag, leave it unclipped, roll the seal over and over until it is snug against the end of the matt, then wrap the free ends around and clip together :)

There are Velcro straps around the mattress. Won't opening the value cause the mattress to inflate against those and end up with indentations?

I store my self inflater out of the bag and valves open under my bed.........when in bag leave it rolled tight with the valve closed.

Thanks Greg. How long is it ok to store rolled up?

I usually pack and unpack mine as I need it...........the foam develops a memory and if stored compressed they eventually dont inflate as well as they used to. As for timelines I have no idea, I have never done it so couldnt say with any authority :)

Socks,

I am not sure about storing inflated or rolled, we store ours rolled.

I would be careful about allowing to expand them in the bag, they can be very difficult to get out if you do.

If you have room these are definitely best stored inflated. Same with your sleeping bags; if you can store them out, or at least in a lofting bag which is not so compressed.

The bags ours came in are quite large and I couldn't understand why, but then we figured out that storing them we had to inflate them. Once they are inflated they fit the bag perfectly. To get them out, just sit on them to squeeze out some air and the bags slips right off.
