Hi everyone. Have to go to Parkes NSW in a couple of weeks with the wife and kids and I am wondering which is a good park to stay in? Would love some suggestions please.
-
Sorry I can't recommend a van park, but I can recommend the bakery at the top of the Main Street. Take it from a fat bloke; they know how to make a French vanilla slice :D
-
Cant remember the name of it, but the park that is closest to the main part of town is not too bad.
It's off the main drag, so quiet.
And walk to the shops.
It's just around the corner from a resturant call "Gracelands" if that helps ?

Hi there, we are locals! :) The caravan park across the road from "Gracelands" is called Spicer Caravan Park, its away from the highway, but still close enough to town centre, you will get the school run traffic thats about it. There's another one on the highway on the North side of Parkes, they have been doing some work on it, it looks heaps nicer now, but not sure if it might be noisier? Gracelands is only just getting back into business after a long time, so don't rely on it for food, but some great eating places within walking distance. If you go to the bakery at the top end, try the rum balls as well as the vanilla slice ;)

Good info.
We'll be passing through Parkes on our way to the gulf.
Might give both establishments a spin.......
-
And if you are ever in Parkes, don't forget to visit the mighty "Dish" aka the Radio Telescope, just off the highway on the North side of Parkes. Free entry and a great cafe with awesome coffee and food. My kids never get sick of going there, (and we can see if from our mailbox lol) :)

Our son (about 12yo then) and I went through about 10 years ago, on our way back from Brisbane. We went to the dish and thoroughly enjoyed it.... especially the little dishes that do the interactive demo......
Kay wants to have a look this time......

Spicer park looks OK from the outside, my father stayed there some years ago and said it was nice, the other one on Forbes Rd I've not heard anything good about for the last 5 or so years, there is also Peak Hill caravan park not far away, off the Highway and nice to stay at.
I'll back Jules on the bakery, It's only a short walk from my Aunts house and I'm yet to eat anything there that wasn't top notch, there is also a sensational cafe in the centre of town on the other side of the road to the bakery.

Stayed at the park in town for 3 nights in a cabin ( per CT ) near the lake . Did the dish tour only to scope the film sites , remember to go to Forbes as well & check out the fountain . This is where most of the film was filmed . Watch the dish then do the tour ;D
Would do it again Tomorrow

We free camped at Greenbah Campsite in Goobang National Park recently when we passed through Parkes. We entered the NP from the south and exited from the north.
Really nice and quite campsite and well off the main road
-
We camped at one next to the thugby oval.
Council park, IIRC. Facilities were neat and clean, if a few years old. Would hapily stay there again.
-
We stayed at Spicer Caravan Park a few years ago, but only for 1 night as we were passing through. It was fine and we had no complaints. The Dish is definitely worth a visit.
-
Also stayed at the Spicer CP a few years back enroute to Broken Hill, was only there one night with ensuite site.
was quiet. neat and tidy

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the advice. Looks like I'll give spiders a go. Thanks again.
