just had the screen replaced in my Prado 90. It has the standard flush fit surround seal except the seal is not flush on the corners, there's quite a gap between the edge of the seal and the insude edge of the window frame. it's been like that for ages and suspect was a contributing factor to a bit of rust that formed behind, The screen broke during easter and decided to get the rust attended to while it was out.
Anyway before the job got done the fella at the panel shop said that there was a different windscreen surround seal that is available for a a Prado 90 with a design that las a longer lip that comes past the edge of the frame and looks more like an old school non-bonded seal with the aim of better corrosion protection of the area between the glass and the edge of the window frame.
Got the car back and the old seal is back in there complete with the gap. Have not had a chance to front up to the panel shop to ask why they didn't get the flash seal they were talking about.
Just wondering, does such a seal exist? I can't get anywhere with google to find out

Hi mate, there is only 1 geniune type of Toyota 90 series windscreen mould. Unfortunately what happens is many windscreen fitters save costs by putting general "flexi moulds" that can be put on a range of different makes and models. They use these wider molds to mask problems. If they have put back the original that is best. By the way the mould around the windscreen is solely for looks it has no influence on the structural install of the windscreen. The most important thing is that they primed the aperture flange correctly to ensure proper and long term adhesion between windscreen and body.

No worries, The urethane installed windscreens are different from the old rubber or butyl kit installs. People think that if water gets between the screen and body it will create rust. The right process though is, that if you keep the area around your windscreen free from dirt build u,p the water should run down your aperture flushing the section between your windscreen and body and therefore as long as paint is good no rust problems..

Hey Wayne. I was one of the first nationally recognized in the trade nearly 20 years ago. Still work for the same company that gave me my traineeship. Last 5 years been working in the building glass side. Still do the odd "technical" job although the latest stuff with auto wipers, rain sensor, aerial etc would do my head in now.
Im a car nut so use to stay open in my store in Coburg on New Year's Eve and do all the cars and the custom work on their way up to the summer nats.... They were the days. ;D
