Ok, after the Toyota Hilux (and *ahem* sort-of playing with Great Wall) I want to expand the GT Campers range...
so, what do I develop next? A Ranger or Colorado 'Expedition'?
I need to develop a Hard Deck (heavy duty tub lid), the mould for the on-board water tank and sort out dust-proofing plus fridge slides, boxes, wiring, yadda yadda, so it's a bit more than a sunny Sunday with a welder and some off-cuts :D
Where is my development efforts/dollars spent?
What will be the more popular Tourer?

Ranger - purely from the waitlist and number I see on the road.
-
Yeah definitely ranger. I think for every Colorado I see on the road there is ten rangers.
Plus it would look awesome!

Ranger !

From fuel efficiency point of view D-Max ( like a Colorado ) ... Mandrake
-
We have a Colorado at work - basically its an atrocious vehicle, I should mention that its about 6 years old and is the 4x2 version. Cant comment on the rangers as I have never been in one and know nothing about them.
-
Ranger...
-
If you can pay any attention to 4wd action in there latest mag the colorado trumps the ranger overall. How much you can take from that i dont know. Ranger looks better then the colorado to me and thats coming from a holden fan.
-
Got a new Colorado at work and I was far from impressed how it performs i reckon they have gone backwoods as there are also some early colorados at work and they are a lot better vehicle - can not comment on the ranger to compare the 2
-
I would say the Ranger as then it would also be similar to the BT50 [as the tray are essentially the same just cosmetically different] ,so you may get the addition benefit. I am sure sales figures combined would be more with the Ranger/BT50 than the colorado even if you included the Dmax [although not sure if they share a similar tray].
The BT50 will be my new 4by very soon.

Ranger would be my pick!

Ranger... And I am Holden fan.
Hutch- 2012 Prado 150, some TJM Kit.

I have the RC Colorado and love it, but comparing current Colorado and Ranger............. Ranger wins hands down, but put the D-Max into the picture and it dumps over both of them
More current shape Rangers on the road is just because it has been around longer
guess when it comes to a development point of view the Ranger would win out just from the above replies, makes no difference which is better, just depends on who sells the more vehicles
-
How about develop for a flat tray ;)
Then you will cover both vehicles as I think both or either can be ordered with a flat tray, even VW Amaroks can be ordered with a flat tray. Flat trays give better ground clearance, and gives a great place to mount that under tray long range poly fuel tank :)

Have you considered the Dmax? It was voted 4x4 of the year in 4WD Action mag. 5 year warranty with 5 year premium roadside assist at a very good price.

Navara D40 mate, shame you missed the Navarathon last month!!!

Ranger
-
landcruiser dual cab
-
Cyberess and Lost, one of the appeals of my conversions is the fact it's sealed and secure inside the vehicle's original tray.
But my Bikini awning can be installed anywhere :).
Lost, do you reckon a Hilux tub would fit over the Crusier's chassis...?

anything can be made to fit... but off teh shelf, doubt it - might be too long... would be interesting though.

Best guess - Holden paid EMG more than Ford did, or one of their "advertisers" has more options for the Colorado than the Ranger. Can't believe anything you read in 4WD Action these days.
I'd vote for the Ranger as it seems to be more common on the road.

i drove all of the dual cabs on offer in manual and auto turbo diesel and i signed off on a mazda BT-50 XTR manual
the ranger was my first choice but after talking to mazda they cut me a great deal where ford didnt move much on the price at all
friday cannot come quick enough

yeah it's a terrific rig...
if you are a grey nomad like my mate

Ranger
-
I think you'll be better of with the bt-50too it's cheaper and its a rebadged ranger
-
what are the differences in widths and distance from the back of the cab.
I would be looking the develop a "pod" that can fit all/ most utes and make up front sections for the fridge of varying widths to allow for the different vehicle descrepancies.
Doing something like a pod arangement will allow you to sell to the dual cab market- make it fit these and then fridge/ storage boxes to fit the space cabs etc?
or are you still going down the vehicle and camper sold together?
my thoughts anyway

every vehicle has unique dimensions (disregarding model sharing such as BT50/Ranger) and for aesthetic and quality reasons, my product objective is to modify/upgrade/dustproof each vehicle's original body and integrate my equipment to it 8)

And I think thats why it works for you ;D
If it was a multi purposes fit I don't think it would look as good IMO.
