I know I am chancing fate here but, we have been away for 10weeks now. And So far the Alternator and the A/C have gone up the spout. So what else can go wrong. The Turbo is only 2 years old so that should be ok but who knows!
I know there is always little things, pop studs, switches failing, etc but on a 160k km Hilux I would have thought it would have been a little better. Are cars made to stop at certain km's now?
Any way better get the soldering iron out and fix the LEDs, the melted cross over relay for the battery in the camper, pop studs and several other things...
Should this be in the Rant thread?

A/C and alternator - you know it happens in 3's!!
Just be happy you're out camping and not stuck in the office!
-
If they happen in 3's, what else starts with 'A'?
A/C, Alternator... ??? Don't want to jinx you though :-\
-
Where abouts on your trip are you maybe a swagger could give you a hand if your near civilization :)
-
are you asking for a list, theres about 5000 things really.

Well the switch (car to solar) for the Redarc BCDC40 melted. I think one of the slide on clips broke with all the shaking. They were kind of thin, and maybe should have gone for the bigger 60A to begin with. Then the Redarc would not work, and has taken me 3 days to sort.(Undoing everything and starting again works wonder, like restarting a computer!) So maybe that is 3. Does not start with A though.
-
Hi,
ARB are the agents for Redarc stuff, they may replace the unit for you if it seems to have failed prematurely.
cheers
-
redArc, there's your third 'A' ;D
Surely you're due some good luck now(maybe you should buy a lottery ticket ;))
Hopefully you can get it all sorted and can get back to doing what you're supposed to be doing whilst travelling...relaxing and enjoying yourself :cup:
-
All sorted for the minute. another A is Auto transmission... But all is sweet at the moment.

on my Landcruiser i did the aircon compressor, a rear wheel bearing and my uhf died in a 3 week trip once......was the one time i went out of my way to try and prepare properly for a trip somewhere...lol

My trip to the Cape was a 'Bearing' Trip. 3 camper bearings, Auto Tension Idler bearing and front left wheel bearing after the CREB. Did the big trip, 6 Months with nothing then that. Bugger is you never know.
-
I done a gearbox 2 weeks before a camping trip, ripped a spring hanger of the trailer in the middle of no where and broke the zip on the trailer cover in the space of a month.
It did get better I hit a emu on the way home from the above camping trio and I did no damage to the cruiser unlike the deceased emu

Well the third A is Axle Bearing... Or I think it is! Finding out at the Mechanic tomorrow. But with anyluck that should be it... But more time for  with friends, who were surprised to see us still parked out side when they got home form work!
-
Bummer. Sounds like you're making the most of the situation though
We've become pretty good at that too the past couple of years ;D

Well just got a call from the mechanic, and they have re assessed the thoughts and have come to the conclusion the front left brake calliper is not releasing fully or something, as with no calliper on there the is nothing suspect going on. Will find out this afternoon I guess when I go to pick it up. Then a second night of final beers with friends, and we will be off! So much for my bush mechanical skills in diagnosing problems!

So this is still correct, BUT it turns out the wheel bearing in the rear drivers side is knackered too. Joy... :4x4: cost too much...

In the last 4 weeks I have destroyed a rim and caliper on the camper trailer when a bolt either came loose or snapped and the caliper dropped and dug into the aluminium rim and destroyed the rim and broke the caliper. After driving hundreds of km on dirt we hit the bitumen and a car goes past flicks up a stone and cracks the windscreen (replaced today) and just spent the last 6 days in a caravan park just out of Canberra recuperating after injuring a disc in my back. Heading off tomorrow on a short trip to see how the back holds out. Also my mate we are travelling with staked a tyre.
We think we have had our share of mishaps but have still been having a ball and looking forward to hitting the road again.
