My dear old mum has one and loves it. She spends slightly more on pellets than she did on wood and the heat may not be as scorching but she loves it for the convenience. She buys several pallet loads of the pellet bags at a time.

Hi all and thanks so far

Apparently they are more efficient and Eco than normal combustion heaters. Down here in tas I have not had much luck with decent wood for the old combustion heater that has been moved out to the shed.

There are some that also heat water for radiators in the bedrooms which looks good.

That's one other thing I miss about S.A . Red gum and mallee roots. I must agree that the wood down here just isn't as good

I had one for about 5 years before moving here.
My step mother is still using the pellet stove now, so it is about 15 years old and still going strong.
IMO they are great.
Plenty of heat, cheap to run, very little mess (compared to the typical wood stove)
A bag of pellets lasted about 24 hours (depending on what settings the stove was on)
