So, I am heading to Broken Hill this weekend for a photography workshop.
I am planning on stopping over in Nyngan over night on Thursday and have opted for an unpowered site once I get to Broken Hill.
I was planning on rolling out the swag as it is just me going, but there is a small part that tells me I should be taking the Jayco for comfort...
Convince me either way, swag or camper?
-
Rolll out the swag, what else are you going to use the awning on the side of the tow wagon, saves on fuel and gets you back down to ground level
GG

Swag................no stuffing around.
My last trip to Byron was a swag, chair and beer, ok JD as well, but takeaway food, so no cooking and cleaning.
Much, much easier..................have fun either way you go.
Cheers Nomad.

On your own, swag every time mate
-
swag it then you will stay up to take photos easier.
Are you running the workshop or attending?

X2 Silverton is great. Make sure you try the free beer charity competition at the silverton pub. You know that mad max museum is owned by a Brit. He is mad...about mad max. ;D
-
x3 Silverton is great. Especially some of the little shops around town...
Just watch the camels at the camel farm on the way in...
-
x4. Great spot
-
Swag it.. I believe he has accomodation at the venue.
-
Silverton sounds like a great idea, but the workshop is hosted on a property...
Yes, there a few different kinds of accommodation at the workshop too, but I chose the cheap one, unpowered. The others were powered or shearers quarters.
I am hanging to get out there....

This is a great spot for photography. Great colous and open space. What's the course you are doing?
A couple of photos when I was out there last time

If you have the time drop in and see the work of Broken Hill local Adam Edwards at Digital Outback Photography
http://www.digital-outback.com/home (http://www.digital-outback.com/home)
you'll get upset with the fact he lives out there and has plenty of oppotunities to get out.
faily sure he has taken photos for Michael for off road racing (4wd and rally) in the past
wish I still lived out there cause I would still pick his brain ;D
Cheers, Jason

Silverton is a day in itself
Take a day out on the way home stay there. You can walk around the town in a day, then a MUST see is Mundi Mundi Plains (but get there hour before dusk to get a good spot)
Located about five kilometres West of Silverton, the Mundi Mundi Plains is a truly breathtaking place.
Looking out onto the expansive Mundi Mundi Plains, it's a perfect spot to take in a sunset or picnic.
The view must be seen to be believed. The wide, flat heart of the Australian outback extends seemingly forever. On a clear day the curvature of the earth can be seen.
Of course, a lot of people have seen the area yet may not realise it, spotlighted as it was in the famous crash scene of Mad Max 2. Sharp-eyed explorers can even find old sets from the movie smattered around.

Have you been told of where the old cars/junks are burried, I have been told of the general area but don't think there would be too much left of them, also general area is about 10sqkm.

I am planning on stopping over in Nyngan over night
Wow, I am feeling old now, the last time I was in Nyngan was almost 20 years ago, my eldest was not yet walking.
We stopped in Nyngan early evening and walked into the cafe, one of those moments where everyone was talking then shut up turned and looked at us then turned back and started talking again.
I walked into the pub and had the same thing.
We felt so uncomfortable our son had dry biscuits for dinner and we kept on driving for a few hours.
As for your delima, I would go the Jayco, but as I said in another post, I am soft.

Found them Cheif Carlos
-
I would take the CT what if you were to come across a young Danish blonde back packer that is in desperate need for accommodation and the swag just did not quite look comfortable enough. It always happens to me and I never take the CT to tell a happy ending of the story.
-
I like that the camper has everything in it ready to use, whereas you've still got to put all the other stuff into the car if you take your swag.
-
I'd be shoving the swag in the camper, best of both worlds.

How much did you pay for the jayco?
I'd be getting my moneys worth and using it! Why buy a camper trailer and sleep in a swag?

with a van I agree.
but for me if its just me I'll take the swag or BlackWolf.. too much hassle for one person for 1 night, but if it was 3+ nights... I'd take trailer.
-
I'd suggest you watch 'Wake In Fright' before doing a solo bloke trip out there >:D
-
Swags it is, as much as I'd like to take the camper, towing it that far, basically just for my own comfort, not really worth the extra fuel.
I understand what you guys are saying, value for money, you bought it to use it, etc.. which is why I asked the question.
Thanks for all the advice, Silverton may be on the cards, see how the weekend goes.
Cheers, Big Ears.
