Use the Galaxy S2 as a wireless hot spot when travelling quite a bit these days and looking at ways of improving the signal such as an external antenna.
One of these seems to tick the box with between 3 to 6.5dB gain on various bands https://telcoantennas.com.au/site/rfi-cdq2195-quick-removable-65dbi-bullbar-antenna
Anyone had any experience with these type of antenna's ?

Does it even have a point to connect an external, I don;t thin k so. You can get t type of cradle that uses 'passive' technology which just means you fir it in a cradle that is very snug and while not directly connected, close enough to provide some extra gain. With out testing they are no very good.
But if you can connect an external - then great.
Has a bit of a google.

PS. The Arial size is perfect for Mobile reception. We all use them up here and it makes a big difference to us.

I have been using the same one for at least 10 years- worked on the CDMA network as well.
generally see a gain of 2 bars- but I have direct coupling capability- patch lead straight to phone- so good/ invaluable as a aid to phone reception.
not sure if a phones WIFI can be boosted- even if the phone has a external antenna port- that side of things are beyond my knowledge.

Thanks for that and sorry I should have made it clear that I was after boosting the phone reception and not the wifi reception as i'm happy with that.

Yes, sorry my thought was there was not a direct coupling option. I don't on my HTC for example. What I do is I had an old Telstra work mate prepaid. and take that as our just in case Mobile, I use a similar Arial. The direct connection is 10 times better than passive technology.
So if you can direct connect then that is great.

yeah- re-read your reply and worked that out re boosting wifi.
Yes you can get a gain and it is worth it- especially as you need good signal for data.
I hadn't thought about drilling the back cover- I was aware of the port on the samsung- just be careful of water and dust. :cheers:
might do this to the wifes phone now work has replaced the ZTE phone I was using (direct coupling) with something that does not :'(

There was a seller on ebay selling S2 patch leads that came with a back cover predrilled for the antenna. Just swap it over when required. Can't find them anymore though.
