Unbelievable, but we just travelled from Innamincka down the back track to Cameron Corner, then out to the Strzelecki Track to Lyndhurst and then up to Marree and along the Oodnadatta Track to William Creek and then the William Creek Road to Coober Pedy when just 15 k’s from Coober Pedy the below happened! Amazing all that way on rough roads and when it happened the road was like a highway, smooth as. But at least we were close to a place where we can get a new tyre. (I am sure they can just put a couple of patches on it and it will be fine!) And we need to get the trailer repaired because obviously the spare has never been used as the studs were rusted and we had to break them off to get the spare off. But we have found a place to get them drilled out and new studs welded in. So tonight we are in an underground hotel room. Ahhhhhhh with a flushing toilet, hot shower just there and a king size bed! (Mind you my wife is still peeved we missed the Yellow Bus outside Cameron Corner! I don’t know how we did not see it, but not see it we did.) Kevin

That tyre will be fine with a couple of patches Kev. Good luck with the rest of the trip.

That'll buff out :D
-
Stick another rim in it and make some tracks
Rod............

It's only flat at the bottom, duct tape should fix it.

It's only flat on the bottom! And umm! The top too!
That tyre has certainly had the spear

No good just looking at it..........

Nice one. That's why we're taking 2 spares for both the Navara and the Misconduct. :-)

I can see your problem. You've put to much air in the sides. 8)

Bugger mate. This happens a lot where the tyre gets a small puncture and subsequent slow leak. You tyre seems ok until the pressure drops and it starts to heat up and then, boom. This is where those tyre monitors come in handy.

Spot on...... you tell by the massive failure of the sidewall.
Having said that, just pop a tube in it.

Krisandkev Nice Try . On the same road from Haddens Corner to Innaminka we lost 2 tyres put on the spare & it too expolded after 12 KM . So with 3 tyres down the trip came to a stop . Spent 40 hours waiting for tyres to arrive after the local grader driver called his base in Yunta , they called Innaminka , the closest to us . Each tyre cost $ 450 delivederd to us . So the grin was removed from the face . The joys of travel ;D

The bush mechanics would have just stuffed a bit of grass in it and kept going.

Just out of curiosity what sort of tyre was it and how much pressure did it have in it? Im guessing it took a while to know it was flat?

Yep, you win :cup:

Can't recall the brand, but heaps of tread, had lowered the pressure on all tyres. It is hard to know when you are losing pressure on a trailer tyre. Could have been worse. The mechanic who is repairing the spare holder studs says he just got a call that people in a twin cab (don't recall the make/model) who are 500 k's out and the cab has snapped in half!

Yeh It is hard to know when you get a flat on the gravel especially on the trailer, Im doing the same stretch of road soon hence the curiosity!

Didn't think the trailer looked old enough for the studs on the spare holder to have rusted up that badly. Very surprising. Might hafta put some anti-sieze on the new studs.

Shoulda just done the bush mechanics fix and you would have got home and would not have had any problems with heat build up neither. :cup:
