I know the drawbar length on the new "newer than mine anyway" is 2.2 meters.
What I need to know is if this measurement is taken from the front of the kitchen to the end of the drawbar or is it the total length of the drawbar from where it mounts to the campertrailer?
Thank you

Ours is 2m from the front of the kitchen box, but the fridge box sits in front of that. Ours is 1.3m from the front of the fridge box but we have a custom fridge box to fit a 60l Trailblaza. From the front of the actual camper area it is 2.5m.
Check on the AS website as there should be a schematic showing lengths etc.

My whole drawbar measures 2.6m and from the front fridge box to the end of the drawbar was 1.05m.

Thanks folks.
Your information was very helpful.
I also had a chat with a friend of ours who has a newer AS and he measured his drawbar for me.
Now I just need to find someone in Cairns who will make me a new "longer" drawbar as mine is a short one...

Hey Bill i have abit of trouble with my drawbar being to short from the kitchen it is 1.3 mtrs but
from the fridge box it is only 400 mm and i can't open the bigger back door of the Patrol it hits the
stone guard and when reversing the spare wheel hits the stone guard i looked at my mates 2006 AS and it has a sort of extention on the drawbar from the factory i was thinking of doing the same to mine here are a couple of pics.

My drawbar is only 1.5m from the kitchen to hitch. (no fridge box on mine).
I want to extended it so I can mount a fridge box/pantry.
I will take the angle iron off (it is only bolted on) and install brand new full length angle.
I wonder if it would need to be re- engineered?

I haven't lived in Cairns for a couple of years now, unfortunately, but there used to be a guy in Scott Street in Bungalow across the road from Unbeatable Sheds that did specialist metal fabrication. Hope that helps

I'll run with this existing post for my questions. Do any AS owners have any feedback regarding the kitchen? Specifically, have you noticed any issue with the cooker being close to the canvas/bedroom window/under the awning?

Ours is a 2002 model and we have never had any problems.
There is a plastic piece that velcros to the canvas behind the kitchen to catch any splatters plus the metal top of the stove opens towards the canvas as a type of heat break.

What Bill said.
We use ours to cook quite a bit ... vegies, snags, the kettle, a fry up of chips, bacon (we use our flat plate a bit), toast ... if you are worried about smells entering the tent ... close the window ... but we haven't had any issues with it at all - our tent tends to smell of wood smoke anyway. As for the awning, well it's way up there and you cooking food isn't a worry for it.

The newer models now have a stainless steel splash back instead of the velcroed one.

I had similar prob with my pov pack 80 series with the large door touching the stone gaurd. i just bought a longer hitch and problem solved. was about $60 from repco a 300mm hitch that way i still have normal hitch with towball and longer one with tregg as well.

Bill,
Duncan at DNC metalworks has done some work for me in the past, and I've been very happy with it. He knows his stuff, is happy to help where he can, and they do really good work.

Not sure if trailer drawbars would be something they would do, but I imagine they'd have a go at it.
Good luck,
Matt

Thanks for that Matto.
I have put the job on hold until after Morag gets back from the UK in April.

How much room (height) does an AS need to be opened? Looking at what dimensions i'll need to build the shed.
Mike

The height of a balcony railings middle rail on a three rail balcony rail is the opened height, but you'll need the entire three rails on the balcony railing and yet another rail to open it up.. :cup: You boys should get that height in the technical terminology though.

How long is a piece of string ??? Can i ask, how tall are you, and how much taller is it than you when you open it up?
Mike
-
Yeah I know! Pieces of string are never the same length and it's a bugger trying to label them. ;D I'm 5'6" and it's a lot taller than me when it opens.
Okay, so let's go back to the photo and try to figure this out, because now you've got me wondering.
The hard floor pivots in an arc from the lowest point at the rear. The hard floor is 2.2m. The pivot point is .55m below that (the total of the hard floor and the rack). From the ground (if it's level) to the pivot point, should be .55m. The rack swings over first and last, and pivots from the rear of the hard floor and it's roughly 2.2m (it's a smidge shorter than the floor). Add them all together and that's your height for opening (give or take a bit for tyre pressures and some dodgy mathematics).
So 3.3m all up but 3.5m should see you miss everything it can hit. Does that sound about right?
