YAY another OB owner, not long til our Swift OB arrives now

We were seriously considering the swift, I think they look super tough and very capable. I think if it had a front storage box we would have got one.
Did you order it with any extras? When is it due to arrive?

Hi Fly Fisher,
Congrats on your new purchase, sure you will enjoy it to the max. Without appearing rude, can I ask how much the upgrade to the Waeco fridge actually turned out. Regardless, I'm sure you have made a wise choice.

Hi John,
The waeco fridge upgrade RRP is $893. This is in lieu of the Thetford N304. I'm not exactly sure how much we paid for the fridge because the cost of the van then all the extras is put together and a total price is put forward. The RRP for our van was circa $30K with the extras and we got it for $27K
If I had to have an educated guess I would say the fridge upgrade cost us approx. $500-600 with the amount of extras we got.
Hope this helps and makes sense.

Hi Fly Fisher,
It seems really hard to fathom if you look at several online accessory houses and there is only a couple of hundred dollars between them, if that. Then take into account that they don't have to run and plumb the gas connection in, the DC cable is the same, the 240 is the same, it almost seems that Thretford are paying to have their fridges installed. Probably goes much deeper than that, we'll probably not make any sense of it at all. Either way, enjoy your new purchase.

Hi John,
I agree, I have no doubt the waeco fridge will be the better unit for us but like you said the install should be easier not having the gas etc. and therefore be around the same price. Jayco must get one hell of a discount on the Thetford fridge?

Having not bought one or seriously looked at buying one, are the 'extras'/upgrades where they make the profits?
you would think any changes would be easier/cheaper/convenient when during build stage?
Any one shed any light on this?
Or is it one of life's mysteries?

I honestly think most of there options are too badly priced and certainly allot cheaper to have fitted at the factory rather then later on at the dealer. I'm sure they would be making money on the extras but I would think its not a heap.
A few examples
12v water pump $175. I priced up the same pump for $140 now that's allot of work for me to do to save $35
Extended drawbar $247
Extra water tank $233
Water tank control panel $202
These are RRP. And a done cheaper again when bundled together.
The water tank control panel was about $600 if you wanted it fitted at a later date by the dealer. So you certainly save allot by getting it done at the factory. The only option I thought was a bit steep was the waeco fridge upgrade, but still worth it IMO.

Fantastic, Love it....
When we were trying to decide on our upgrade from our old on road dove to a new van, we knew we wanted an OB.
But the starting point was going to be either the Dove or an Expanda, we had an option list that was identical to yours & were really struggling between having a trailer that was better for off road (Dove) or instant setup (Expanda), in the end & after much procrastination we went with the Expanda, but damn we do still miss the capabilities of the dove. :'(

Looks awesome! We are getting our Eagle Outback with a very similar list of extras in 2 weeks. Reading this thread got me excited! Lol
-
Love it!!! I love our Dove O/B, but yours is newer :)
-
Looks great! Is the new door design good? They look impressive!! Pil
-
Yep I'm really happy with the whole camper, the oodles seem to be a much better design including the seal. Time will tell I guess.
-
How long do you have to leave it before you stop taking your boots off before entering ? lol looks good. We also have a Swift on the raidar ,but they would be great if they had a front boot.
-
Congrats Michael, your Dove looks great. I look forward to seeing how you mount the Honda gennie to the draw bar. I was thinking of taking the jerry can holder off and having a custom made bracket and checker plate box made. Where are you heading for the shakedown trip?
 Macca.

Hi Macca, we are heading away up near wahalla for the weekend so will be great to see how everything performs. I have been thinking about how to mount the generator on the drawbar still. I'll post a few photos once I'm done
