Been a member here since '09 but drifted away as interests changed. Back on track last week and enjoying the forum very much.
Went to join recently and found I was still signed up so this time round will make a proper intro.
Better half and I have travelled in Aus. a bit and driven round it (with two little terrors), clockwise once in 1981 in a caravan. Said then that would always do some more travelling but with a trailer. We had a Challenger soft floor CT back in 2009 and did a little bit with it, the main trip (a short one) was into Wonnangatta Station via Zeka Spur and out via Myrtleford. Tow veh. then was a 2.8 D/C Hilux. Slow trip but no probs at all.

Mrs. S. wasn't keen on the soft floor as it was a 'climb' to get in and out of the cot and wasn't all that well set up re annexe, leaking water, accessibility etc. Sold after 12 months and since then do local solo wandering trips with the swag and a bit of a canopy on the back of the now Hilux, a 3L diesel tray.
The urge to travel has surfaced again and this time the camper trailer will be a little better set up with the field narrowed to a Kimberley Kamper and hard floor.
Now to find the ideal KK ...... ;D ;D ;D
This is a terrific forum and has a wealth of information volunteered by the members, thanks :cup:

There would have been a lot less bitumen in '81!
Welcome!

Thanks for the words of welcome everyone.
1981.. ;D..We left East Gippsland with a new tandem caravan, by the time we were north of Carnarvon it was rattling to bits. Back down to Geraldton and traded it on a new Viscount 16ft'ish pop top which saw the remainder of the 28,000km trip out with only a slightly bent stub axle on one side.
Gave the Gibb River Road a miss but went lots of other gravel roads. Tow vehicle was a 1978 FJ55 Landcruiser Wagon with a 184L petrol tank.
After that trip I was quite sure a trailer set up was the way to go. Camping Trailers weren't very common then and we did do a family trip to W.A. with tents in 1992 towing a domestic 7x5 trailer with canvas cover to keep some dust out. It went OK but wasn't up to the job really.
Now for that u beaut KK .............
