I just swapped my kids motorbikes for some quads so they ride them for themselves. Problem is now after riding for a while there thumbs started getting sore from the thumb throttle. How hard would it be to change it to the normal style throttle found on motorbikes or can it even been done?

I think the thumb thing is for safety. With a twist throttle it gets cracked open when the you know what hits the fan ;D

We used to have this problem on our jetski's years back and would fit a finger throttle instead, you should be able to pick these up from most jetski shops

Yeh mate i know bout the safety point but they were capable enough with that throttle on there motorbikes they just couldnt touch the ground on them.

You could try cutting a small piece of garden hose about 60-70mm and slipping it over the thumb throttle it will help until the kids get used to riding
Cheers Mike

Fairly common modification. A mate converted his Raptor, his young fellas Banshee and the missus' chingwing thing to twist grip. Find out the handlebar diameter and see your friendly bike shop or wrecker.
